Horses and ponies are affected by several different species of intestinal worms, which is why animal wormers are so important. A year round horse worming schedule is the best way to ensure your animals are completely protected against all varieties of worm and because owners can buy a wormer online, it is very easy to implement a worming program using equine.
What Are the Different Types of Chemicals Used in Wormers?
Different horsewormers contain different chemical groups, which is why horse owners must use certain types of wormer at particular times of the year. The many chemicals that may be found in a wormer include:
• Benzimidazoles
• Macrocyctic Lactones
• Pyrantel Embonates
• Praziquantel
What Wormers are used for Red Worms?
Macrocyctic Lactones are used to target red worms, bots and lung worms and are normally administered at the end of the year – typically during either November or December. An example of an equine wormer to use for these types of worm is Equest. Red worms come in two different varieties: large red worms and small red worms, although both can cause equal amounts of damage if left unchecked.
Large Red Worms
Equine wormers such as Equest horse wormer and Equimax horse wormer are designed to target both types of red worm, so it is essential that you remember to treat your horses and ponies at the correct time. Large red worms are less of a problem in older horses as the majority of UK owners have adopted a regular worming schedule, but large red worms are still a problem in younger animals and the worms can damage internal organs during their migratory stage.
Small Red Worms
Equest horse wormer is used to target the encysted larval stage of the small red worm. Small red worms enter a larval stage during the autumn and over a period of a few weeks the larvae remain in cysts before turning into adult worms. If a horse is carrying a large number of small red worms, the encysted stage of the worm’s lifecycle can have devastating results - affected horses can develop severe colic, diarrhoea and even die, although the horse may initially appear perfectly well.
Where Can I Buy Equine Cheap Equine Wormers?
Discount horse wormers can be bought from a number of outlets, including online pharmacies and veterinarian surgeries, along with other types of livestockwormers such as awormer for sheep and a wormer for goats. Worming schedules are easy to use, but if you are not sure about which type of wormer to use, ask a vet for advice on a horse wormer suitable for your needs. Your vet will be able to guide you in the right direction concerning the best wormer to buy and the best time to administer it.
Red worms can cause devastating damage to the equine intestinal system and although large red worms are now less common thanks to effective treatment with equine wormers, small red worms still represent a significant danger to horses and ponies in the UK.
