If we were to pick one thing that we in India get used to really fast it would be ‘waiting’. Queues are found in abundance in our country and there is little we can do to jump them. And one very significant characteristic of Indian queues is their length, which is usually measured in the highest denominator of the measuring scale.
If we were to pick one thing that we in India get used to really fast it would be ‘waiting’. Queues are found in abundance in our country and there is little we can do to jump them. And one very significant characteristic of Indian queues is their length, which is usually measured in the highest denominator of the measuring scale. Be it the queue for admission forms, train reservations or job interviews, the length is mind-boggling. This long queue syndrome has just found another victim – the automobile industry. Most recently launched hatchbacks are staring at backlogs and the customers are getting to here the most dreaded words: ‘you are in queue, please wait!’

According to Volkswagen group, sales India, board member Neeraj Garg, “We are gradually ramping up production, but not rapidly as, we do not want to compromise on the quality.” This statement came out after the news that the hot-selling Volkswagen Polo is facing a three – four month backlog. But the Volkswagen guys need not worry as the competition is not going to take advantage of this situation. Simply because they are sailing in the same boat! Ford’s dream hatchback Figo too has a waiting period of upto 60 days depending upon the availability of a particular colour and variant.

The recently upgraded Maruti Wagon R is generating a lot of curiosity but the buyer of this ‘blue eyed boy’ would have keep his own brown/black/blue/grey eyes batting in anticipation for at least about 25 days before getting his hands on the car. And if it is Chevrolet Beat that is making you heart go ga-ga over its sporty looks then be careful because the same car can make you skip a ‘beat’ with a waiting period of about a month for its LT and LT optional variants. However, the waiting period of Beat’s LS and PS variants is only upto 15 days.

Lastly, if you are smitten by the Maruti Swift’s K-series engine then be prepared for a little wait as the delivery is not as swift as the car itself. You might have to wait for upto three months to be able to whoosh around in this one.

All said and done, in the end it does not really matter whether you have to wait a week or a month to get those perfect set of four wheels. The wait is usually worth it, ask any car lover!
