"The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no de
"The same day went Jesus out of the house, and sat by the sea side. And great multitudes were gathered together unto him, so that he went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower. When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understands it not, then comes the wicked one, and catches away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receives it; Yet has he no root in himself, but endures for a while: for when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, by and by he is offended. He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful. But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understands it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." (Matthew 13:1-23)

The seed is the word of God. In those days the Gospel was preached just as it is today. Many will hear the message but not receive it mixed with faith. There will always be someone preaching the word of life faithfully until the end of time. God said that His word will prosper wherever it's been sent. To those who hear it but understand it not, the message then becomes a mystery or closed book to them. Often people fail to open up their hearts to God, they need to seek after Him with their all. We are instructed to hunger and thirst after His righteousness.

Satan always seeks to eliminate the word of God or it's effects on people's lives. Nevertheless, those who hear it and accept may not remain in the truth because they do not develop a love for it. Typically only one in ten people remain true to God, these obtaining the reward of eternal life. They may cry or shout when they are Born Again (through God's grace, and belief shown in water baptism in the name of Jesus). But they do not last very long. Those who receive the word among the thorns or briers, depart Christ because of the cares and desires of this life. We are in the world, but not of the world. There's nothing with loving our families, taking care of them and having hobbies or friends. But when they take priority over God in our lives, then that's when the trouble begins. That's why Jesus said that we must love all things less than Him, and to place the Lord first and foremost in our lives.

Remember that water baptism is not salvation by works, as the demons would wish you to believe. It's an act of obedience to the word of God. See John 15:14; 14:15. And if we expect to receive the spirit of God, we must be willing to obey Him. The Apostles testify to this fact. "And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." Water baptism in His name because of our belief in it was commanded by Christ, and completed by all of the Apostles without any exception.

The reason for us becoming saved from the wrath that is to come was to bring forth fruits of the (Holy) spirit, and to see others come to know the Lord personally. Our job is not to run around shouting at people telling them to repent or burn in Hell. I have seen this happen, that's talking at people instead of to them. The average person knows that they are not going to Heaven unless they act upon the word of God. The devil is already accusing many of their failures, and making them feel guilty because of their sins.

However Jesus always spoke to those around Him, showing a heart of compassion and love. He never unjustly condemned anybody, allowing them all the opportunity available to become part of the family of God. He will leave not any stone (or stony heart) unturned to find His lost sheep. His love was greater than even death, for He came back from the grave to show forth the love of God. Nothing can ever separate you from Him when He's your Savior, not one thing except you. With a love like that, nothing else really matters. God bless you richly!
