I’m quite fortunate that my work takes me around the country; I’m based remotely and have clients across the UK. The M25 can either be my best friend on some days or my worst enemy; it really is a hit or miss on most days. The M1 and I have a love hate relationship; lately it has been more of the latter!
The road works on the M1 means that there are currently a lot of average speed cameras, to slow the traffic down because there are people working on the road. I am completely for that and respect the safety aspect of it, and sometimes it helps to pan out the traffic and prevent start-stop traffic jams.
I am also a firm believer that accident hot spots should have some form of speed reducing measures. But like many motorists sometimes I too do get caught out by cameras. After speaking to a lawyer in Kent I now know that all speed cameras need to be highly visible and the speed limit on display clearly. To be honest most of the time this is the case but I have seen a few instances where the speed limit is not clear.
For the past few weeks on my commute to work I have been presented with some road works, whilst the road works were going on the speed limit was reduced from 40mph to 30mph and this was clearly sign posted at the speed camera. Now that the road works are complete the old sign post is still sprayed out and no speed limit is visibly displayed, so what is the speed limit? I have been approaching it at 40mph, if I do get a ticket through the post I will be taking it to court as it is unfair and very confusing.
