Dogs are one of the most preferred pets across the world. But possessing a dog is not easy enough. Care has to be taken and a lot of effort has to be given in order to maintain the pet. However, the first thing that has to be done with it is that it has to be appropriately named. Dog names reflect on the dogs as much as it does on the owner. It also mirrors the relationship between the owner and his pooch.
Dog names should be selected judiciously as they may portray the dog in a positive or a derogatory light. Some people get biased on hearing the names and this can result in someone being uselessly scared of an innocent dog with a ferocious name. Dog names have to be chosen depending on the purpose of the dog. While dogs are largely used as pets, they play a major role in tracking sites or criminals. Research dogs and therapy dogs are also found in certain places.
Based on the location there are a few common dog names. For instance Sam or Sammie is a famous name in North America. Max or Maxie, Maggie Buddy, Tasha and Chelseav are other popular dog names. Some also use Ginger, Taffy, Bear or Brandy to call their loving dog. Previously dogs were named on their physical aspects like Spot. In recent times dogs are named after human beings. Names such as Molly, Sam and Lucy are prominent human names. One reason behind this emerging trend is the increased love for the pets. Now people look upon their dogs as a family member and not as an animal and they are treated accordingly in that manner. The human-like names emerge from that feeling.
Dog names have become so significant that the study of dog names has been termed as onomastics. Onomaticians state that people are more concerned about the dog names now and actually get into serious discussions to come up with appropriate ones. The emergence of pet parlors and shops speak for itself as to how important the dogs are in ones life. They not only provide unconditional love but also make the owner feel wanted and acts as a stress-buster. Many childless couple own dog as a pet and look after it as their own child. The names are therefore chosen accordingly.
Although some people prefer common names like Max, others opt for something that is a little off-beat like Miles or Wallace. The traditional names like Kitty, Misty and Tiger are also prominent dog names. Some people have made a very interesting observation. Men prefer masculine names while women like feminine ones. Pooky, Poo Poo, Booboo are some funny names and indicates the sense of humor and the lack of ideas of the owners.
Therefore, when anyone plans to own a pet, they should think an appropriate name from beforehand.
