Satanic works

The works of Satan and his evil companions is explained out in detail. These fowl creatures war against all of mankind, they seek to kill, steal and destroy from all of mankind. The way to recognise and defeat his attacks is shown through Christ.
Since Satan can't be in more than one place at a time he uses demons to do most of his work. Demons are used by Satan to oppose God, His plan and purpose, and His people. They also war against unbelievers to keep them from the truth of the Gospel. Demons control specific territories (principalities) such as the prince of Persia mentioned in Daniel 10:12-13. Demons also work through personalities, and through men and women to accomplish Satanic objectives in the world.

Opposition to God's will is Satan's main objective. The word "Satan" means "adversary." Satan is primarily God's adversary (Job 1:6, Matthew 13:39). He is secondarily, man's adversary (Zachariah 3:1, 1 Peter 5:8).

Demons have different natures. One demon identified himself in 1 Kings 22:23 as a "lying Spirit." A "deaf and dumb" spirit is identified in Mark 9:25. Demons of various natures operate as spirits of infirmity, seducing spirits, and unclean spirits. Satan uses them to war against man in body, soul, and spirit:

SPIRITS OF INFIRMITY:

These are spirits that afflict the bodies of believers as well as unbelievers. Read Luke 13:10-17. This woman was afflicted with a spirit of infirmity. She was present in the Sabbath services and Jesus called her "a daughter of Abraham." Both of these facts indicate she probably was a follower of God, yet her body had been afflicted by Satan for eighteen years. For other examples of demonic powers afflicting the body see Matthew 12:22, 17:15-18, Acts 10:28 and 2 Corinthians 12:7.

SEDUCING SPIRITS:

These spirits afflict the spirit of man, seducing him to believe doctrinal lies and be condemned to eternal punishment. They are spirits of false doctrines, cults, false Christs, and false teachers:

1 Timothy 4:1, "Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils."

These seducing spirits are deceptive. They actually work miracles which lead some to believe they are of God:

Revelation 16:14, "For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty."

Even him, whose is after the working of Satan with all powers and signs and lying wonders.

"And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved."(2 Thessalonians 2:9-10).

Seducing spirits include the "spirit of divination" mentioned in Acts:

Acts 16:16, "And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying."

Such spirits of divination or "familiar spirits" operate in fortune tellers, witches, and palm, crystal ball and tea leaf readers. Through unscriptural methods, these spirits of divination foretell the future or things naturally unknown. Warnings against familiar spirits are given in Leviticus 19:31, 20:6, Deuteronomy 5:9, 18:10, Leviticus 20:27 and 1 Samuel 28:3.

Seducing spirits sear the conscience, seduce, entice, tempt, allure, interest, fascinate, excite, arouse, attract and deceive. Seducing spirits are active in causing "spiritual wickedness in high places." They are present and operating in every cult and wherever doctrinal error exists. Remember that Satan craves the worship and he will take it any way he can get it. Seducing spirits entice men and women to worship idols and even Satan himself.

UNCLEAN SPIRITS:

These demonic powers afflict the soulish nature of man. They are responsible for immoral acts, unclean thoughts, temptations and other strategies of Satan used to bind men and women. When Satan controls individuals with unclean spirits, he can also operate in homes, churches, and entire nations as these groups are composed of individuals. This is how Satan works in the various levels of structure in society. For example of unclean spirits see Matthew 10:1, 12:42 and Mark 1:23-26.

The following are examples of the characteristics of demons in the Bible.

Here the demon exercises his will, a 1st characteristic. In Matthew 12:44, the demon who has gone out of a man says, "I will return to my house from which I came." The demon here exercises its will to make a decision, and then follows it up with the corresponding action.

Here the demon shows emotion, a 2nd characteristic. In James 2:19 it reads “You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe - and tremble!" Trembling is an outward mark of strong emotion. Derek Prince writes that at times he has seen a demonized person, who when confronted with the authority of Christ, began to tremble violently. This may be an outward manifestation of fear of the demon inside.

Here the demon shows intellect, a 3rd characteristic. Demons have knowledge not derived from natural sources, rather evil sources. The first time Jesus confronted a demonized man in the synagogue in Capernaum, the demon spoke out of the man and said in Mark 1:24, "I know who You are - the Holy One of God!" It was more than a year before Jesus' own disciples began to realize what this demon had discerned immediately.

Here the demon shows self awareness, a 4th characteristic. When Jesus asked the demonized man in the country of the Gadarenes in Mark 5:9, "What is your name?" a demon answered on behalf of itself and the other demons, "My name is Legion; for we are many." The demon was aware of both its own identity and that of the other demons occupying this man.

Here the demon shows their ability to speak vocally, a 5th characteristic. In the first three gospels and also in Acts, we see several examples of demons able to speak through the vocal organs of the people they are occupying. The demons could and still do answer questions and carry on a conversation. Normally we regard the ability to speak as a distinctive mark of personality.

Demons display a wide range of character traits. The following evil spirits, demons, or devils are mentioned in the scriptures, but this list is not exhaustive. Each one is a personality, and the word used expresses their nature:

Remember that the enemy has come to steal, kill and destroy. Demons will seek to harass, enslave, entice, deceive, torment, defile, fight, drive and compel into obsession. The only sure way to expel them is through faith and the application of the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in all things, to include your baptism. One must also repent, forgive others and confess that Jesus Christ died for all of their sins. Consider these scriptures. Jesus said to him," I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6) "I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture." (John 10:9) "And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him." (Colossians 3:17) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, "All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth." (Matthew 28:18) Then Peter said unto them, "Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:38)

If you applied all of the five scriptures already mentioned to your heart and life, then simply stand in the power and might of the Lord Jesus Christ. The apostle Peter left us all this admonition. "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle you." (1 Peter 5:6-10)

The apostle Paul left us all this advice. "Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." (Ephesians 6:12-18)
