The Ford Figo is an entry level small car from the house of Ford India Private Limited in Chennai, India. The car is inspired from the Ford Fiesta hatchback and is on the roads from March 2010. In its strong hold market, India, the car is the third ranked in the largest selling B-segment hatchback car. The car has also made inroads in South Africa and in Mexico with different engines. The car made its debut in New Delhi in September 2009. The launch of the Ford Figo was the make or break story for the company and the car did manage well to live up to its expectations.
The car comes in both the fuel variants and comes with a gear transmission of manual type with five speed options and power steering which a compulsory feature for all the variants. The diesel cousin of the car has the same engine ripped from the Ikon and the Fiesta.
The gasoline variant of the Figo is bolstered by a 1.2L, petrol engine that coughs up to 71 PS of power at 6250 rpm with 102 Nm of maximum torque at 4000 rpm. The car breaches the 100kmph in less than 15 seconds with a top speed 164 kmph. The Ford Figo engine is a four cylinder 1196cc 16V DOHC Petrol engine, rated at 71 PS (52 kW; 70 bhp) @6250rpm with 102 Nm @4000rpm maximum torque. The diesel cousin has a four cylinder 1399cc 8V SOHC Diesel engine, rated at 68 PS (50 kW; 67 bhp) @4000rpm with 160 Nm @2000rpm maximum torque.
The gaso variant with the novel 1.2 liter, SEFI petrol engine delivers a road run of 12.5 kmpl mileage in the city while on the highway it offers mileage around 15.5 kmpl. The car is also compliant with the BS-IV (Bharat Stage - IV) emission norms. The diesel variants of the Figo are run by the 1.4 liter Duratorq diesel engine. This engine is also compliant with the BS-IV (Bharat Stage - IV) emission norms. It delivers a road run of 16 kmpl in the city while on the highway it delivers a mileage of 19 kmpl. The car also reveals on how many km one can go with the available petrol/diesel in the tank with the 'Distance to Empty' feature.
The front of the car is the striking feature and is ripped off from the kinetic theme seen on new gen ford cars. The slim grille and huge lower grille are all ripped off the Kinetic Design elements giving the car a racy and modern style. The head lights along with dynamic wheel arches give a dramatic look to the front. The styling has its inspiration from the Europe ford fusion. The Figo being a modern car still traces back to its roots to the previous Mark V Fiesta from 2003. The Figo has completely revamped itself in the body panels, the large glass area and low window line point which seemed historic. It is based on the last generation Ford Fiesta and hence has lot of underpinnings with the car. The car is surely worth its money with a good finish quality and the doors really give that solid feel when you close it.
