Exterior Style: The Renault Clio just seems to have no stopping. The car has yet again evolved to a more modern look this time taking cue from the New Megane. The front has a larger nose, stretching headlights with a revamped bumper and tail lights. The car comes in a three and five door hatchback options. The Renault Clio has six trim options namely the - Extreme, Expression, Dynamique, GT, Privilege and Initiale. The top of the range is the Renault sport 200, with muscular flared wheel arches, black grille surround and body kit.
Interior and practicality: The Clio has always been very generous in terms of space in its class. The car has a more than useful 288-litre boot space that extends up to 1,038-litres with the rear seats folded flat. The Sport Tourer has a 439-litre boot space and 1,277-litres with the seats folded. No matter what the variant, all the Clio’s come with the same solid constructed interior. Dynamique models and higher versions get a classy soft touch dashboard finish with AC.
Driving experience: Keeping in sync with the foremost of Renault Clio’s traits the car has a nice combo of drive control and handling. Every corner you make with the Renault Clio is filled with stance, road control and body balance. The shock absorbers too gulp up any imbalances on the terrain. Just when you feel like heaven the electric steering spoils the experience with poor feedback. For the thriller in you the Renault Sport 200 will give you the much needed spark. This variant is bolstered with a stronger chassis, sharper response, and performance.
Engine and performance: The 1.5-litre dCi diesel engines are the ones to look out for. The car delivers 85 bhp and 106 bhp respectively enough to keep your eyes open. The latter engine is equipped with a six speed manual gear transmission. The petrol engines have five options to choose from. The 1.6 litre VVT comes with 108 bhp and 126 bhp power capabilities. The 1.2 litre, 73 bhp engine rattles a bit. However the powerful 1.2 litre and 98 bhp turbo charged engine is the winner and almost has the same mileage similar to the diesel engine. The Renault sport with its 2.0-litre unit is the king of all and delivers a blistering performance of 197 bhp.
Safety and environment: Renault has always been a hard follower of safety. The Renault Clio’s five stars from EuroNCAP crash test is no surprise and is a huge advantage while selling a small car. All the variants of the Renault Clio come with at least six airbags as standard (Dynamique, Privilege and Initiale trims have eight air bags. Even the eco friendly consumers will be tempted by the low CO2 emissions and can go for the diesels which produce between 115-123g/km depending on the model.
Ownership costs: The Renault Clio certainly is not a cheap car in the small car segment. However, the car gives around 40 percent of its actual value in the re sale market even after three years of purchase. This really puts it on par with its mainstream competitors like the Ford Fiesta. The diesel engines are the best in terms of operating cost with a good mileage compared to the gasoline variants.
