LED lamps are the solid lamps that utilize light emitting diodes as the source of light. The LED used in this may be conventional semiconductor light- emitting diodes, polymer light emitting diodes devices or organic LEDs, although polymer light- emitting diodes technologies are not commercially available, currently. Since the light output of individual LED is small as compared to incandescent and compact fluorescent lamps, the multi diodes are often utilized collectively.
LED light is utilized as an indicator lamps in several devices and are increasingly utilized for other lighting. In 1962, it was introduced as a practical electronic component and this LED emitted low intensity red light. However, the modern versions are accessible across the visible, ultraviolet, infrared wavelengths, with very high brightness.
Now it is possible to replace the other lamps with LED lights as in the present years, diode technology has been improving that uses high power light emitting diodes with higher lumen output. In some commercial LED lights, high power LED chip is utilized, which can emit 7,527 lumens and use only 100 watts. LED lamps can be made interchangeable with other kinds of lamps. Direct current and electrical power is utilized by the diodes, so the light emitting diodes lamps must include internal circuits to operate from standard AC voltage. If the LED is run at the higher temperature, then it can be damaged and this is the reason that these lamps contain the elements of heat management such as heat sinks and cooling fins. These lamps are energy efficient and are long lasting, however, its initial cost are higher than those of fluorescent lamps.
To form the shape of the light bulb, identical light emitting diodes have been arranged so as to make the LED bulbs. The produce light that resembles day light which is capable of changing the traditional light bulbs such as incandescent light bulbs and compact fluorescent lamps. Most of the modern LED undergo such a process of manufacturing and superior design that increase the life span of up to 100,000 hours as compared to 10,000 for a compact fluorescent and 1000 for an incandescent bulb. However, the life span of the LED bulb could dramatically come down due to the amount of heat produced by the LED, which directly depends on the die temperature and LED ambient temperature. Some light bulbs only produce 50% of the light output as compared to the new ones, which give good amount of light that means it shows the sign of age after a couple of years that is reflected in its usage.
