Deception manifests itself in many different ways. To name just two, from entertainment on one side, to foolish affection of intellectualism on the other. People close the eye to doctrine shown in the grand old Book, on the one side choosing entertainment instead, and on the other side foolish affectation of intellectualism is embraced rather than sound doctrine and being a doer of the word. Both these extremes advance ecumenicalism. Both these paths have missed the path shown in Scripture, the path the just are to follow (Pr 4:18; Ps 119:105). Believers are to be doers of the word and not hearers only. Proverbs 4:18 18 But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day. Psalms 119:105 105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. Compare spiritual wisdom with worldly wisdom, spiritual light with the worldly. These are contrary the one to the other. Many are boasting of their wisdom while ever ready to ridicule others for their not having attained the same height. That is foolishness and shows they know nothing as they ought to know (1Cor 8:3). Be not wise in your own conceits. 1 Cor 4:7 7 For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it? There is nothing now I believe that genuine Christians despise more than the foolish affectations of intellectualism. – C. H. The Scriptures show us the path. There is worldly wisdom and spiritual wisdom. These two are contrary one to the other. To discern the one there is need of the sun and the moon. The other instead has the glory of God to lighten it, and that light is not seen in the worlds darkness. Isaiah 60:19 19 The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory. Most scholars agree that this Scripture refers to water baptism, which was always completed by the apostles in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ in the book of Acts. John 3:5 5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. For the believer, those made just by faith that is the gift of God, Jesus is our light. John 8:12 12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. Give heed to the Bible, for it testifies of Jesus. It reveals Jesus Christ. John 5:39 39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. Isaiah 8:20 20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them. Romans 2:13 13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified. James 1:22 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. Ephesians 2:10 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. Believers are to follow the Lord. We are not to cut a new path and do our own thing, but instead we are to follow Jesus Christ. John 10:26 27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: Matt 16:24 24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Mark 8:34 34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Luke 9:23 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
