Christian symbols are the outward manifestation of certain Christian ideas. There are some prominent symbols that we allude to in our daily lives. Authors have mentioned Christian symbols in their book to express an idea.

Christian symbols have incorporated the symbols of other religions and cultures. Generally religious symbols are simple so that they can be easily comprehended by the common man. The religious symbolisms of all the religions overlap to a certain extent. Even if a particular religion has not deliberately copied the symbols of other religion, the ideas behind these symbols are similar. This makes some symbols common to all religions. The symbols which are common to all religions are most popularly used by men.

Many Roman monuments also contain the image of a fish. It symbolized the growth of fishes and loaves of bread. Some claim that the fish symbolizes the food of the disciples after the Resurrection of Christ. In Greek mythology, Ichthys means fish and is associated with the character of Jesus. Therefore it is very common.

The cross is perhaps the most prominent Christian symbols that symbolize the pain and the suffering of Christ. This is widely seen in many countries and cultures. This symbol was seen in Anglicanism, Roman Catholicism apart from Christianity. The cross has been very famous since the death of Jesus. Protestants also made use of the cross except the corpus. The cross is also made with the fingers on the forehead of Christians till today. It is a very popular belief existing among people that by making the cross they are remembering their Jesus.

Sacraments is one of the most important Christian symbols. This symbol is seen in varying denominations in the tunnels and ceilings of churches. It is considered as a sign of grace and spiritual transformation. In Eucharistic liturgy, the bread and the wine are very significant. The bread is considered to be the humiliated body of Jesus Christ and the wine, his blood.

Some Christian symbols include an apple, pelican, INRI, anchor, shield of Trinity, Pentagram and Christian Flag. There are certain icons that have been noticed in the graves on people in the earlier period. They are graphic representations of an idea and are impregnated with meaning. Therefore a basic idea about all these Christian symbols is very necessary.
