The new debutant from the house of Honda entering into the small car segment has a huge gap to fill in. The Honda Brio is a complete alien to the car that was showcased at the 2010 Auto Expo in Delhi. The car looks a little less sportier compared to the concept one that was launched earlier however this does not take away anything from the fact that the Honda still looks attractive. The car looks similar to the Jazz in terms of the styling and the sharp sloping roof gives the car a compact look. The Brio is still a spacious car with 1.6 metres giving it an imposing road presence and stance.

The roof of the car increases in stature towards the rear but the one that gets the eye balls is the completely transparent glass back at the rear. The car looks quite attractive and very practical. The insides of the car also look up beat and modern and surely feels niche in its class. The spaciousness in the car will easily believe you into fooling that it can easily fit three people at the back. The car does have sufficient space for the occupant’s head and knee and even for the foot.

The dashboard of the car is the run of the mill dual tone with a mix of beige and chocolate brown. The clocks are also very racy and the drive wheel also augurs well for the entire looks of the car. The car also has the option of steering mounted audio controls though the 2-DIN stereo and does not accept compact discs and like the Jazz it only has aux and USB connectivity.

The seats are also very comfy though it might need some practicing. The car lacks in the functional aspect with lack of storage options. It has the standard cup and bottle holders and nothing more than that.

The car is run by a 1.2-litre i-VTEC engine and comes good even at high revs. The four cylinder i-VTEC delivers a decent punch with 88PS at a maximum rpm of 6000 rpm with 109 Nm torque making it a decent drive. The engine is a complete no grunt and has no options of going the diesel way as well. The engine is superbly refined, has responsive gearbox making way for some smooth shifts and slicks.

The car has a slightly weaker suspension which is not totally good at controlling the body roll. It does manage to weed out any bumps in the path and makes for some memorable driving experience. The ride quality really makes you wonder whether this is an entry level car at all. The steering though electronically power assisted has no power at all and feels quite cranky at times. For the city terrains the Brio is precise and effortless in the traffic and you can find your way through the city. Over all it offers very little feedback and weight in terms of the road presence. The safety is taken care by some good all round visibility along with the ABS and front airbags for the high end variants.
