Bible Verses for the New Year
New Birth - A Living Hope
1 Peter 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Hope for the Future
Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.
A New Creation
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
A New Heart
Ezekiel 36:25-27
Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.
Forgetting the Past
Philippians 3:13-14
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
Learning from Past Mistakes
Hebrews 12:10-11
For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. Now no chastening for the present seems to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
Wait on the Lord
Psalm 37:7
Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Isaiah 40:31
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
God's Timing is Perfect
Ecclesiastes 3:11
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.
Each New Day is Special
Lamentations 3:22-24
It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.
The Lord is the God of new beginnings. He's constantly looking for a new way to bring about His restoration or revelation for the bettering of everyone's life. He promised redemption and brought it pass by His own hands. All throughout history great men of the Bible such as Moses, David and Peter all failed to serve God perfectly. Yet despite their failures, He renewed His mercies and had compassion upon them. God knows everything about us. He recognises our dreams, abilities and desires from afar off. Yet above all things, He wishes for us to have an abundant life in Him. One of destiny rather than apathy. If we failed in the past (as all have) or have hopes for the future (as many do) He can help us to achieve even beyond what we could ask or think of, according to His holy power. So why not call upon the name of His Jesus in all things, to include your baptism, which in itself is recognized by many Christians as a new start into a walk with Christ. God wants to grant you the desires of your heart according to His will, and give to you only the very best of what He has. But in order for Him to do that, we must trust in Him. The year 2012 will not be the end of time, rather instead it will be the beginning of a prosperous year for all of those who are ready and willing to accept the truth of His word.
