The recording of this particular song was done by Bing Crosby and was in the top ten list of the record chart of contemporary period and was included as one of the best holiday songs for ever in the US musical tradition irrespective of its age and time.
On August 24, 1953, Kent and James Gannon created this legendary number and the musical hit was first made under copyright on that period. The creator duo re-created their musical block blaster on September 27, 1943 and this version was revised and re-copyrighted by the creator lyricist and music directors. This version of number was made famous by Crosby. The label on Crosby’s recording credits was shared by Kent, Ram and Gannon for their outstanding contribution. The letter on the credit for recording goes to Kent and Gannon. A discrepancy arose with a song previously copyrighted on the year 1942 December which has slight similarity with the later on Crosby recording hit numbers that lasted for quite a long time over the copyright of this musical legendary numbers.
Ram was the lyricist of this famous song and recollected his writings almost before 16 years it came into tune. Once before release he discussed this song with two of his friends and left a copy with them with no business planning with them. But out of their sheer surprise and disgust the same song was released from a competitor publishing house and both of them were surly shocked by this breach of trust. It was a serious legal problem and this discrepancy ended in the courtroom.
Crosby recorded I’ll be home for Christmas on October 4, 1943 for Decca records with the assistance of John Scott Trotter Orchestra. The song was hit at its first occurrence and was on top list consequently for quite a long time. Next year it was ranked number 19 in the hit list but was never out of the track of the music lovers and the song enjoyed a feverish popularity since a long time after it made its first debut. That time World War II was on and this holiday song took a special appeal for the soldiers or for the civilians who used to miss their closed pals in warfront. Crosby for the astounding popularity of this musical hit won the fifth gold record of his career.
In December 1965 in the longest flight schedule in US space program, the astronauts were asked if they would listen to any musical track in their space voyage. With surprise only one option came from them. They wanted a record of I‘ll be home for Christmas.
