As soon as you set foot in any Asian city, you’ll immediately be bombarded by taxis, cars, motorcycles, bikes, and pedestrians crowding the streets. While you may be confused about how to get around the city, rest assured there are many options of transportation throughout Asia.
* The first, and perhaps the most common, is the taxi. These colorful cars can be found on almost any street, and almost any time of the day. With a simple gesture of the hand, a taxi will pull over to the curb, ready to take you wherever you need to go. However, if you don’t speak the native language, you may want to bring along a map with you, or a business card that depicts the address of your destination so your driver will be able to understand.
* Subways and buses are another reliable option to find your way around the city. Just make sure you consult the maps provided and get off at your correct stop. Also, both of these can get tremendously crowded at any given time of the day, so keep your belongings close to you; it is not unusual for tourists to be pick pocketed during these times.
* As you tour Asia, you will see many motorcycles and perhaps even some tuk tuks rushing through the streets. These are both cheap alternatives for getting one point to another. Keep in mind that motorcycle drivers are not required to provide helmets for you, so safety may be a concern. Due to Asia’s notorious traffic jams, motorcycles are probably the quickest way to get to your destination. Also, tuk tuks make for an incredibly bumpy ride, so be prepared for that as well.
* Finally, it is not uncommon to simply walk from one point to the other. This is also a great way for tourists to see the city from a more intimate perspective. Just remember to bring a map with you just in case, as well as the address and phone number of your destination just in case you get lost.
Be prepared for the noisy and sometimes ruthless streets of Asia as cars are always swerving past pedestrians and using their horns whenever they see fit. On your next tour to China or tour of Beijing, try exploring the city with the many forms of transportation the area has to offer.
