A religious place is visited by people for offering their prayers. A church similarly is a place for people who gather to pay their tribute and devotions to the almighty. Its image is not associated with violence and threat to life. The church is a calm and quite place unlike any other religious institutions and the people who come here come, pay their tributes and goes. There is no kind of insecurity associated with the church. However, in recent times a section of miscreants and criminals are targeting churches for their harmful activities and as a result the need to strengthen Church Security has become imperative.
As a matter of fact, the incidents of violence and homicide in church premises have gone up significantly in the recent years. While some rogues target the church going people during prayer, taking chance of their aloofness, some others keep an eye on the mass gatherings during the auspicious and religious events.
In many such incidents both the church people and innocent devotees have been injured and killed. There are some malicious people who make use of children to force the congregation to submit to their demands. All these examples necessitate the stepping up of the Church Security.
There are some inherent problems and sensitive aspects of the churches that make implementing hardcore Church Security a problem. First of all, a church can not be made to look like a fortress. It is a place of worship that promotes non violence. Hence adopting rigorous and prohibitive security measures may not be possible. The management of a church should consider these factors before increasing the level of security in and around its premises.
The church managements need to develop effective security systems that can deal with a crisis situation without troubling the devotees and congregation. This is easier said than done. A church can not possibly make searching the visitors physically a regular procedure. It is not also possible to set up metal detectors as it does not gel with the character and ambience of a church. Besides, a church has to work with congregations where lots of unarmed people pray together. The Church Security should be adequate enough to provide safety to a large number of people.
One good option that the church managements can think of applying is a close circuit TV monitoring and integrated alarm system. The latter can be used to alert the neighborhood immediately when a dangerous incident takes place. A Church Security system should have active connection with the nearby police station that can be informed instantly of any crimes and misdeeds. Effective public announcement systems should be put into place to keep the congregation calm and control their activities during the hours of crisis. A church is a quiet place and every effort should be made to keep it quite and maintain its security.
