How to charge your Nissan Leaf?
The Nissan Leaf model cars use two charging standards for its inlets, including Type 2 and CHAdeMO. While type 2 is used when charging at a public Nissan charging station or home, CHAdeMO inlet is used to carry high power during rapid charging from the CHAdeMO connector. The inlets could be found behind a flap in the centre of what would be a car’s grille.
Nissan Leaf could be slow, fast, and rapidly charged from public charging stations based on the network and type of charging unit. In most cases, fast charging requires a Type 2 cable and 2 pin and slow charging requires a 3-pin to Type 2 cable. For rapid charging, you could use a CHAdeMO connector which can be tethered to the charging unit.
Public charging station
If you are using a public charger, an activation process is required to initiate charging. Based on the network provider, the process may require the use of a smartphone app or RFID card which is linked to an active account. Once activated, the units will conduct the account check and start charging the vehicle.
Charging at home
Powering your Leaf at home is indeed the most convenient option. As long as you have a dedicated circuit and proper outlet, you can install L1 and L2 charging stations at home. Level 2 charger is faster than Level 1 and you’ll need a professional to install the level 2 charging station in your house.
