When some candidate looks for LGV training or ADR training he first thinks of bright career in driving commercial huge sized vehicles; however, the government cannot turn blind towards the people on road and must ensure safety to those people. The government of the UK under its transport department issues three categories of HGV or LGV license wherein Categories C1 (7.5 tones), C (rigid, class 2) and C+E (class 1), etc. are the major ones. One fundamental requirement from any candidate is to know the categories as it helps in determining the training options that suit the best. Such training modules help candidates learn driving skills and get jobs in commercial transport companies.
The category C1 requires minimum age 18 and enables the license holder driver any vehicle that weighs over 3.5 tones but do not exceed 7.5 tones e.g. trailer. However, if the candidate passed car test before 1997 he automatically gets C1 and exempted from the Initial Driver CPC qualification. Class C Vehicle License on the other hand enables the driver to drive vehicles with a gross weight in excess of 7.5 tones yet not exceeding 32 tones. It is often described as Class 2 and includes a rigid vehicle i.e. a cab and trailer are permanently fixed together.
Category C+E - Minimum enables a candidate drive articulated or draw bar type vehicles. Thus, it is pertinent that driver with this license can drive any type of Large Good Vehicle or LGV. Getting the Cat C+E license assumes that the candidate has already passed B+E and C1+E licenses. ADR training on the other hand requires a person to go through practical learning on how to drive vehicles that carry dangerous items and take them safely to the targeted place complying with The Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations 2009.
In ADR training courses a candidate goes through various mandatory Core Modules that are considered crucial and then certain optional ones i.e. Package Module, Tanker Module and Dangerous Goods Classes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 9, etc. amongst others. The entire ADR training is meant to provide practical lessons on safe carrying of dangerous goods in vehicles. Certain ADR training providing companies in approval of the Department for Transport (DfT) impart excellent quality practical classes to candidates so that they can get the license easily and with fewer efforts.
