Taking a horse ride through the countryside is perhaps one of the best ways to have fun. Alongside caring for your horse and undertaking basic horse maintenance, such as purchasing equine wormers, it is important to take the appropriate precautions.
Fluorescent Footpaths and Riding Hats
Wherever you are travelling, make sure you are wearing a riding hat at all times. It could also be a good idea to don an item of protective clothing, fluorescent if at all possible. This way you are easily spotted and protected if the worst should happen and an accident should occur. If you are riding alone, it is always advisable to take a map with you on your travels. It is possible to get lost in the most familiar of landscapes when confronted by a swift change in the weather. Therefore, having a map to hand should assuage any panic that arises alongside the fog, or other adverse weather conditions. Plan your route well in advance so that you know what all the signposts mean, ensuring that you do not stray to any footpaths that you should not be on; some footpaths require permission from the landowner before being traversed. If you are riding near livestock, then stay calm and walk slowly, giving them plenty of space. Finally, always ensure that you travel with a mobile phone, just in case the maps
do not work and you get lost. Letting a family member or friend know where you are going beforehand makes matters even safer, should an incident occur where no communication is possible.
Countryside Codes and Courtesies
It is not only your horse that needs caring for with products such as equine wormers, or yourself with a riding hat. The countryside is a place that should be enjoyed by all and there are some small courtesies that help to make this a reality. One of the golden rules of the countryside is to leave any gates you come across as you find them. If the gate was closed, then make sure to shut it once you have moved through. Likewise, if a gate has been left open this is most likely for a reason. Farmers often leave gates open purposefully to allow livestock to migrate between fields. If you come across other riders when travelling through the countryside, then give them plenty of room and slow to a walk if necessary. Most importantly, take any litter home with you so as not to ruin the natural beauty that you have enjoyed on your journey. Looking after a horse is not all mucking out and buying equine wormers, but an opportunity to have fun in the countryside. Employing these rules will make sure you thoroughly enjoy your visit and keep coming back for more.
Purchasing items such as equine wormers is a lot more fun when you know you are prepared for a ride in the countryside. Being aware of the codes of the countryside will make the ride even more enjoyable, and many of these can now be purchased from reputable dealers online.
