Have you ever had a chance to sleep in your car? Has the adventurer in you every though of putting your four-wheeled beauty to that sort of use? We saw Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor turn his car into an apartment in one of his recent movies and even Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar had to sleep in their car in another movie. Who can forget Abhay Deol sleeping in a Mercedes in a con film? So, why not us? Sounds interesting, but the adventure doesn’t come without a little danger. The fear of being mugged or harmed is always lurking at the fringes and it is also important to check if the law in the state allows one to do so. Also, there could be some compelling reasons too that force you to sleep in your car even when you do not wish to. Conditions like a broken down car awaiting rescue, getting completely lost, locked out of the house (yourself or by wife/girlfriend), sudden very bad weather etc could force you into turning your car into a bedroom.
If such a thing does happen then remember a few things to avoid turning the situation into an ugly nightmare. The most important thing to keep in mind is the parking space. Remember to park in a safe location where there is no potential threat to you and your car. Do not get badly drunk and loose all consciousness of your surroundings. Being a little alert always helps perchance a tricky situation arises. Do not keep the car running to use the air conditioning or leave the keys in ignition. The keys should be inside the glove compartment or any other safe place.
Sometimes sleeping in your car turns out to be an exciting prospect if you are on a long road trip or just visiting some nearby weekend spot. It helps you save a little buck. But the quality of sleep is bound to be an issue as aiding good sleep is not one of the functions of a conventional car. Also, if you are deliberately trying to sleep in your car in some far flung area make certain that you have a few essential things like water, sleeping bag, some food, torch, tool kit and the car manual with you. Most cars come with seats that can be flattened giving a roomy feel. The size of a car does have some significance when and if it comes to comfortable sleeping. A SUV is bound to more comfortable to sleep in as compared to a hatchback.
Also, remember that this is a tropical country and your car might get really hot or really cold during certain parts of the year. However, it would be dangerous to sleep inside the car with the windows rolled down or the a/c running in hot weather. Make sure your car is not leaking anything lethal inside if it is broken down. If you have stepped out of your car and gone looking for something remember where you parked it! It could get very harrowing to find a car in the dark with no signs to guide you.
Overall, if you are a wee bit careful and follow some simple facts your sleeping-in-the-car adventure might turn out to be a really interesting one to narrate later.
