The Ten Commandments
The Ten Commandments were written by the hand of God in stone, in the form of two stone tablets. In the Bible Exodus 31:18 refers to the tablets containing the Ten Commandments as the "Tablets of Testimony" because they give insight into the nature of God. According to the Bible, there were two sets of the Ten Commandments. The first Ten Commandments, inscribed by God, were smashed by Moses when he was enraged by the sight of the Children of Israel worshiping the Golden Calf (Exodus 32:4) The second set of the Ten Commandments were later cut by Moses and rewritten by God. The Ten Commandments are the basis for western law and justice.
Commandment 1: You shall have no other gods before me.
