Wild birds love seeds. When you want to attract wild birds to come and feed at the bird tables at a select farm you may use the Niger seed to do the work for you. The popularity of this seed is increasing each day for the purpose of attracting birds to gardens to feed on wild food.

Mineral Rich Seed
This seed is rich in proteins and originates from Guizotia Abyssinica plant, a herb that is widely grown for its seed and edible oil in Ethiopia and other locations of Africa and India. This wild bird food is known by different names like nyger, inga, ramtil, black seed. At times, it is incorrectly referred to as thistle seed.

The Seed’s Commercial Sense
The popularity of the seed has grown due to its business sense. Different wild birds’ love of this seed led to its marketing as one of the many wild bird feeds that birds love. Apart from its protein content, the seed is also rich in nutrients, calories and oils, and has the ability to attract many wild bird types into the garden.

Unlike other seeds which are often hard and tough, this seed is fine and a special wild bird table or feeder accessory is required to hold the seed for the wild birds to feed on. It is recommended that one should buy the type of special feeder that has several perches, if only one wants to see a flock of wild birds perching there to feed on these seeds. The perches can be erected out in the farm at all times in order for the birds to feed for as long as they want to feed. This is of course, also meant to establish a favourite feeding spot for wild birds out to feed on this seed.

One should however, make sure that the birds are kept safe from predators in order not to scare them away for good. The feeding tables for these wild birds should also be left clean in order to avoid the possibility of disease outbreak.

Although this type of seed is of high quality and convenient for wild birds, it is quite expensive to purchase. Once the seed is purchased, always keep it in a cool and dry place in order to boost its shelf life.
