It is also known for many movements. The people of Portland have been doing much hard work to get there rights both men and women they have been fighting for there rights and have succeeded in it. The women have also been successful in making there place in the society by different movements of feminist and other women rights. To have representation in parliament and other institutions. It also supports the ideas of punk style and other. The DIY (Do It Yourself) culture is also playing a great roll in the society and many people are coming into it. Portland is rich in performing arts and has many different centers for different types of performing arts. The city is full of art galleries, theatres and other performing art centers. The most known centers are Oregon Ballet Theatre that was founded in 1989 and is doing great work. Oregon Symphony was founded in 1896 and is the sixth oldest in the history of United States. The Portland Center Stage was founded in 1988 and now it works as an independent theatre producing some very good art work. In the field of music Portland has some very famous names the bands like The Kingsmen and Paul Revere & the Raiders. These are known all over the world. Other well known musicians and bands include The Dandy, Sleater Kinney, The Shins. How can we forget the world known animators Matt Groening and Will Vinton the legends in the history of animation belonged to the same city. Portland has also contributed in the field of acting by producing some fine actors that have been living in the hearts of people like Sally Struthers, Dan Steffan and Sam Elliot. Portland has also served as the place of shooting of several box office hit films and many award wining films. Some of them are Extraordinary Measures, the fabulous movie Twilight, feast of Love, The Hunted. Portland has also been blessed by some of the writers whose publications have been the best sellers and they have been on the top list for years. The writers include the famous fiction novelist Chuck Palahniuk whose novel has won several awards Fight Club. The worlds renounced novel Earthsea Ursula K. Le Guin There is only one famous newspaper printed in the city that also circulates to other parts of United States. It is very old paper named The Oregonian. Other than the Oregonian there are some other papers that publish daily or weekly and are cost free and are delivered to the hotels, restaurants, hospitals etc. There are also some other journals and radicals that are also published in Portland and are circulated to other parts. The famous is The Portland Business Journal.
