Who has heard of the people's republic of Kampuchea by chance? I sure did not till recently. Located in the southeastern part of Asia, this country was ruled by the French in the mid-nineteenth century.

Republic Of Pakistan: National Banners & Flags
In the last few centuries flags have been used for political parties, commercial enterprises, and signaling purposes (for example mount flag poles for sea vessels and such). The national flag is more of recent development, interestingly.
