The capital of Tasmania is Hobart and has a population of approx 120 thousand people. It's a beautiful city, located on the Derwent River.
Hobart is one of those places, that despite being small, attracts tourists from all over the world. Examples of beautiful attractions include the beautiful colonial cottages at Battery Point, or the Salamanca Place Harbour. It's a great place to just chill our, relax, and enjoy a drink at one of the many stylish bars.
Hobart is Australia's southmost state capital and its 2d oldest city, after the noted city of Sydney. There is plenty to do whilst in Hobart, including such attractions as the Bonorong Wildlife Conservation Centre which is a great place to experience the animals of the outdoors.
Hobart also has its fair share of great wineries, most notably Morilla Estate and the Cascade Brewery. If you love a tipple, you have to visit at least one on your trip! Hobart's own Cadbury Chocolate factory is for those who prefer chocolate over wine, and is a really interesting place to visit.
The Royal Tasmanian Botanical Garden is located in Hobart and boast an amazing selection of flora and fauna in an ideal garden setting. Visitors and locals can experience the great outdoors by taking a walk through the garden's numerous acres of unique plants and flowers, whilst enjoying the overall garden atmosphere.
Visitors can also take a walk through history at the Tasmanian Museum and Gallery and the Female Factory Historic Site. Both of these museums are fun and exciting ways to explore the history of Tasmania whilst spending your holiday in Hobart.
Hobart also has some great venues for exploring Tasmanian nightlife. The Theatre Royal is the oldest theater in the country and hosts a broad variety of concerts, shows and plays. If gambling is your setting, then you will enjoy visiting Australia's first legal gambling club, the Wrest Point Casino. This full-range casino is situated in the Wrest Point Hotel and functions as a prominent staple in Hobart's nightlife scene.
The best place for nightlife in Hobart would have to be Knopwood's Place. There's great live music to be heard and it's full of a great mix of locals and tourists alike. Head down to the Irish pub, Murphy's for another great night, located at Salamanca Place.
Visitors can also find some great shopping in Hobart, especially at the famous Salamanca Market, which features over 200 shopping stalls. Considered to be one of Australia's best markets, Salamanca Market offers shoppers a wide range of items, including fresh food and homemade crafts and pottery
