Hyperhidrosis is the condition of abnormal perspiration or sweating in order to maintain the body temperature. It is classified as generalized hyperhidrosis, where the person may experience sweating in most parts of the body like face, neck and any other parts. Local hyperhidrosis is the phenomenon of sweating in a particular area in the body. Such excessive sweating is caused by cancers, thyroid problems, obesity and even general fever. Hyperhidrosis is definitely a serious medical condition which requires suitable diagnosis and treatment. Affecting thermoregulation components may also induce hyperhidrosis.
Hyperhidrosis can be further classified as primary, secondary, facial, axillary, palmar and plantar hyperhidrosis based on its causes. When the sweating observed is natural and not due to any medications, then it is primary hyperhidrosis. Secondary excessive sweating is usually caused by unrelated medical situations. To be precise, the conditions that does not cause primary hyperhidrosis. Facial hyperhidrosis, profuse sweating on the face and scalp can be extreme that it is dripping with sweat even after an easy work. This condition is observed in both men and women. Excessive sweating in underarms is called axillary hyperhidrosis. This may lead to an awkward feeling in public to use a jacket always and you may have to worry about your odor. Palmar hyperhidrosis, as the name suggests is the excessive sweating on the palms. With this, one may not be able to shake hands, type on keyboard and even hold glass or other soft items. This leads to stress and embarrassment which further increases sweating. Plantar hyperhidrosis is the problem of sweating of the feet. Smelly feet, frequent changing of shoes, inability to remain bare-footed are its consequences.
This problem can be overcome by appropriately treating hyperhidrosis. Excessive sweating can be treated using surgery, lotions or even injections. But they have very much less effect on generalized hyperhidrosis. For the generalized condition, there are some medicines in the market prescribed by doctors to reduce sweating especially, those drugs that block the chemical contact between sweat gland and the nerves.
Antiperspirants are efficient drugs to reduce excessive sweating but it needs to be done regularly. Also it must be applied over dry skin to avoid side effects like sore red skin. Axillary hyperhidrosis can be avoided by sweat gland suction technique. This technique involve in permanently removing the sweat glands. These treatments may also have side effects. But Botox, Botulinum toxin A can cure excess sweating with causing no side effects. A small dose of pure Botox is injected into the underarm and this temporarily blocks the nerves that stimulate sweating. The effect usually lasts between 2 and 6 months and even a year sometimes. Botox cures excessive sweating without any side effects. So stop worrying about your sweating problems.
