A removal company wants your move to go as easily as possible. They really want to work with you to get the job done. If this happens then all of the parties are happy with the end result.

When you first approach the removal company you need to tell them exactly what you have in mind. This way, they don’t have to guess what you want them to do. Yes, they are moving you, but they are not Houdini and can’t guess what exactly you want moved and what is not going with you.

You also need to be very clear what part of the work you will be doing. If you are packing the boxes, make sure the removal company knows that. If you are packing some of the items and you want them to pack others, again be very clear with your instructions. It is very easy to generally sweep your arm about a room and say, all of this goes. Then you get the written estimate and say, oh but I’m going this part. They have to re-estimate the job and that is not the best way to start a move.

When you receive a contract make sure you have checked that all of the dates of the move are correct. Then double check them. Also look at the estimate and compare it to the contract to make sure nothing is left out. Point out any differences and get them explained to you. This is necessary for a thorough understanding of what you are paying for. It is too easy for either party to make a mistake.

As you get closer to the moving day, you will need to make sure the moving company can easily get to your house and not be blocking all of the neighbors. You should let your neighbors know what day they are going to be moving you so they have all the clearance they require to get their moving van as close to the house as possible. Also make sure you have adequate space for them to maneuver around your house, yard, driveway and garage. If they have to negotiate through a lot of stuff them move will take longer and it will cost you more.

Also make sure the removers have adequate room inside the house or apartment to get their dollies or pads or ramps in place so they can use them. If everything is stacked tight things will have to be moved before they can actually begin working.

Also make sure all appliances are ready to move. Drain the washing machine hoses if you can. Empty that refrigerator and freezer chest. Make sure any lose parts are stabilized so they don’t come off and get lost. Anything you can do before they arrive to make the move easier will benefit both parties. This doesn’t mean hauling about boxes, but more things done in preparation for their arrival.

If you work together, it becomes a much faster and easier move.
