Hello folks!! Our favourite month is approaching and approaching fast. Who doesn’t long to make the best out the festive season??!! Of course, it is the day commemorating the birth of baby Jesus with the angels singing. Well I guess everyone knows the story.
Hello folks!! Our favourite month is approaching and approaching fast. Who doesn’t long to make the best out the festive season??!! Of course, it is the day commemorating the birth of baby Jesus with the angels singing. Well I guess everyone knows the story. Oh and how much we like it here in Malta!!! But hey, let’s not forget the other stuff too!! Father Christmas, for instance, otherwise called the present carrier… that jolly ‘slightly overweight’ (not to hurt his feelings!!) heavily bearded man who always smiles at you with his plump red cheeks – an indication that he likes his mulled wine up there in the pole. And what about snow man (gee considering everyone puts on some weight at this time!!) but then again… we don’t talk much about the ice man here for obvious reasons.

So what has Malta got to offer in Christmas time? Oh yes, food, loads of food and great food at that!! But that’s typical in Malta all year round. But at Christmas time, oh we really bring la gastronomie to another level. You don’t believe me then just try the renowned restaurants at The Palace or the Copperfield Restaurant of the Victoria Hotel. The melange of top Mediterranean, Asian and continental food with an exquisite twist of Maltese traditional yumminess, is what is making Father Christmas smiling and… overweight!!

And what about the lights. They are everywhere but of course us Maltese, we simply cannot resist competing with each other. We respect our capital city and sure enough Valletta would undeniably be in pole position. But close by would come Sliema and the surrounding area! Ah but there might be some people who would complain as all the shops and the hotels in Sliema surely give a helping hand. A view from The Palace Hotel rooftop would surely give a 360 degree of what might be the high-end fashion equivalent for lights.

But surely the religious sentiment reigns supreme in Malta! A mere visit to some of the magnificent parish churches (of which we have more than 460 for you to pick from) is a proof of the abundance of grandeur Malta is really blessed with. And if that isn’t enough, religious tradition and folklore is not confined within the walls of churches… oh no no no!! Let’s try this… picture the nativity scene – baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the ever present cow and donkey. Ok?…now zoom out to include the three wise men with their gifts and camels, all the shepherds with their flock, the angels in the sky and so forth. Done… now use your wild imagination and illustrate the scene with whatever you might come with, static, moving, classical, modern, real, virtual, even alive if you want. Multiply it says by one hundred and you will have an idea of the giant cribs Maltese amateur craftsmanship is able to create all around Malta.

Add the imperative and loved Christmas pantomime, graciously left to us by the English whose fondness of Christmas is legendary, and you’ll have the most complete Christmas holiday of your life - guaranteed. Actually the one and only problem, you may say, is how on earth can you incorporate everything in one single go. Well then, problem solved!! Year in year out, thousands of tourists have stayed at The Palace and The Victoria Hotel in Sliema, the heart of Christmas activities, and as they will all say, with the guidance of our personnel they managed to cream out everything.
