Wine for Special Friends
Chestnut Grove

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to be able to present to you the first of our suite of new releases – and what spectacular wines they are!

The first of our 2009 reds – the much loved Chestnut Grove Cabernet Merlot and our new offering Chestnut Grove Shiraz exhibit intense focussed varietal characters due to a very lean and low yielding 2009 vintage. Those of you lucky enough to taste the very limited Shiraz in 2002 will recall what a treat this wine is.

We also present our first release Cabernet Merlot from our secondary label, Peppermint Creek , again from 2009. This wine also shows the benefits of the 2009 vintage but at a budget price point.

Our 2010 White wines are spearheaded by the 2010 Chestnut Grove Verdelho. This wine has everything we have enjoyed in our great Verdelhos, and is that perfect crisp fresh flavoursome specimen that oozes summertime! To complement this and representing outstanding value is the 2010 Peppermint Creek Sauvignon Blanc which has just won a silver medal in the Qantas Wine Show of WA 2010.

Full tasting notes for all these wines and more follow. We are confident that you will find that these wines “over deliver” to you on quality and represent outstanding value.

Congratulations must go to our winemaker, David Dowden and his talented team for delivering such an outstanding offering to you. One of the joys of wine making is getting to tinker with parcels of grapes – and there is a very limited deeply sweet Madiera style Verdelho brewing and nearly ready for the bottle! There are exciting times ahead!

Stay with us as we complete our range of wines in the coming months, with the return of our premium Estate range led by the Chestnut Grove Estate Merlot.

Until then, we invite you to take advantage of this mail order – and start asking for the wines in your favourite restaurant and bottle shop, too!! You are very welcome to visit our recently opened Cellar Door down in Manjimup, which is open six days a week Monday – Saturday.

Yours sincerely,

The Kordic Family.

TASTING NOTES

Chestnut Grove Verdelho 2010 (New Release)

Chestnut Grove has a reputation for producing one of Australia’s best examples of cool climate Verdelho. This Estate grown Verdelho has a nose of white peach, pineapple, citrus and floral spice. Luscious fruit provides richness, balanced by clean acidity. The wine has layers of fruit complexity with subtle creamy edges providing texture and balance. An elegant dry style Verdelho highlighting the quality of the vineyard.

Chestnut Grove Chardonnay 2006

Straw yellow with some green tinges. Primary fruit aromas of fresh ripe chardonnay are complemented by subtle butterscotch and vanilla oak derived perfumes. The palate is vibrant with strong varietal chardonnay characters over complex lees and oak characters. The palate is long and persistent with pungent fruit seamlessly balanced by natural acidity.

Chestnut Grove Shiraz 2009 (New Release)

Distinctive and intense varietal aromatics of dark berry, floral perfume, exotic spice, aniseed, cinnamon, white pepper and savoury earthy complexity. High toast French oak provides subtle complexity and underlying spice. A medium-bodied palate delivers with sweet dark fruits, raspberry tartness and rich forest cake layers. The tannins are fine grained.

Chestnut Grove Cabernet Sauvignon – Merlot 2009 (New Release)

Estate grown Cabernet Sauvignon (55%) and Merlot (45%) combine to offer classic aromas of black currant, forest floor and dark chocolate. Cabernet provides the structured power and Merlot the supple richness: a traditional blend offering seamless concentration and elegance. French oak maturation for 18 months provides added complexity, depth and fine grained tannins. This wine will drink beautifully now, and reward cellaring for 8 – 10 years.

Peppermint Creek Verdelho 2008

Lifted tropical guava, paw paw, citrus notes with floral spice aromatics highlight classic Verdelho sourced from a cooler climate. The palate offers upfront sweetness with a rounded rich profile but nicely balanced by a fine acid backbone. Verdelho has the potential to age gracefully with silky oily textures on the palate providing lovely mouth feel and complexity. Overall, a full-bodied dry style with generous palate weight and fine lingering acidity, showing the hallmarks of this classic variety. This wine is designed for short term cellaring and immediate enjoyment.

Peppermint Creek Sauvignon Blanc 2010 (New Release)

(Silver Medal – Qantas Wine Show of WA 2010)

Lifted tropical fruits, classic gooseberry and lemon zest anoint the nose, while slight herbaceous edges provide freshness and complexity. A very fruit-driven clean, aromatic style, with an elegant palate structure, natural acidity and a long dry finish.

Peppermint Creek Cabernet Merlot 2009 (New Release)

Attractive fruit-driven style combining the structure of Cabernet with the softness of Merlot. Aromas of blueberry and cassis combine with subtle French oak spice. A soft rounded palate is well harness by a fine tannin structure. This classic Western Australian blend is a well balanced wine, designed for immediate enjoyment.
