A wig’s comfort should always be paramount in choosing the wig for you. It is determined by what the base or cap is made of and how the hair is attached to this base. A machine made wig has fibres which are sewn into wefts in the cap which can often make the wig feel slightly more stiff. Handmade wigs have the fibres sewn into the cap which allows for easy parting and styling.
These wigs are very light in weight and easier to handle for some. Cap-less wigs are light and airy making them very flexible wigs which usually have a mesh lace, designed for comfort.

The most popular, and often most desired type of wig is that of a monofilament wig which comes the closest to looking like real hair. A monofilament wig gives the impression the hair is growing from the scalp and it designed to look natural for this very purpose. Each fibre is tied onto an extremely fine sheer mesh base, woven specially to create ventilation and provide excellent comfort. These wigs are more expensive, but are worth it if needed for everyday use. They offer a very natural look and both synthetic and human hair wigs offer the monofilament option. These are so easy to style.

Synthetic Hair Wigs

The most affordable range of wigs, synthetic fibre hair wigs have been developed as a cheaper alternative to human hair wigs and are invaluable for their versatility when washing and wearing them. They come in a vast range of styles and non-fade colours and are easily maintainable. Heated hair styling appliances must not be used on synthetic hair, and you cannot dry the hair near a radiator as the heat with severely damage the fibres. Synthetic wigs should hold their style and should need less attention than your own hair would. Fibre friction is the main problem with synthetic hair, even more so with longer styles.

Human Hair Wigs

Human hair wigs take a little more care to look after and are more expensive than the synthetic range. You have to wash and condition human hair very carefully each time and they must be styled into position after each wash. The colour will need refreshing every 6 months and the hair may start to look less natural after 12 months wear. The upside to human hair however, is that you will not experience any static frizz and can style the hair with heated styling appliances. You may feel that the hair is more natural in texture and psychology you may also feel as though the hair is less noticeable as not being your own.
