These days, most everyone has a web presence. If you want your business to succeed, then it's a requirement to have a website where potential customers can go check your products or services out. However, it's no longer just enough to have a website - you have to follow certain conventions that people expect so that it can be found. One of the things you can do to ensure people find you is to have a custom URL that ties to your company's name. Here are a few reasons why you should use a custom domain.
It makes your brand more visible on the Internet. The search engine optimization benefits are more than enough to justify getting a custom URL. Links and rankings for your business will all point back to your site, and it will be regarded as professional and legitimate if the name is recognizable. By using your company's name in the URL, customers will also be able to find you more easily, simply by typing the name of your company into a search engine such as Google.
It is more identifiable. When you use your company's name in the URL, people will know they are on the correct site. It helps people associate your brand and online presence with your name. As mentioned before, this makes it come across as more professional. People will be more willing to put their trust in you if they feel like they can trust that the website belongs to the same company as the one they have in mind.
It is expected. A friend of mine once told me that her father thought every business could be found online by typing in the company name followed by .com. Although this is one example, there are plenty of people who follow this mindset or who expect it to be this way. Big companies, such as Apple, follow this convention, so it seems only logical to follow it whenever possible. This isn't always practical for small businesses, especially when there are so many domains already taken. However, you should try to create a custom domain name with the company name in it whenever you can.
Setting up a custom domain and hosting can be easy - but sometimes it is not. If you find that you need additional help or advice, you can always contact an e-commerce provider.
