The Smartphone industry is renowned for its ability to conjure up an application, service, or gadget for just about every demographic, ethnicity, age, gender or occupation - no matter who, or what you are, “there’s an app for that“.

However, nowhere is the industry more competitive than that for young adults in the 20-27 age range (they comprise the bulk of the Smartphone market). For this reason, tailoring a smart phone for students has long been an industry objective.

Though the competition is stiff and another objective analysis might reveal otherwise, the Apple iPhone has played its hand most successfully with the student demographic.

First and foremost, the user interface is incredibly straightforward and friendly (besides being more aesthetic than other Smartphone models). Even somebody who has never handled a Smartphone before would have no problem picking up an iPhone to make calls, play games, or send texts without resorting to “hey, how do you…?”

A study by AT&T (objectivity is obviously a bit of an issue here) reveals that ease-of-use is actually first when it comes to the younger demographics’ smartphone priorities. One would have naturally assumed the more senior among us would prefer ease of use as well.

Second, students sitting in class all day or juggling class with work and little to no opportunity for charging their phone will appreciate the nearly 300 hours of standby battery life. This translates to somewhere in the region of 12 talk-time hours. Apple claims newer models will hold even more battery life!

Besides ease of use and extended battery life, young Apple users will most certainly appreciate the litany of applications available from the App store. Competing Smartphones have not had the experience or expertise to develop an application system as extensive as Apple’s. Many of the applications are academic in nature, including formula calculators, rulers, subject-matter outlines, and a slew of others. Not to mention the fact that Apple’s iPhone 4 can get up to 32 gigabytes of storage.

And finally, students on a budget (as most are) will appreciate Apple’s infamous customer service. Apple products come with extensive warranties (considering the fallible nature of technical products) and a loyal employee-base that’s well known for their commitment to satisfied customers.

Similarly to students, Apple products are paving the way to the future in a way that no other corporation has managed. Students, and others in professional capacities would likely continue to do well in investing in Apple, and more specifically, their line of iPhones.
