Besides, smoke detector technology has now progressed enough that their ubiquity in any household, building, or establishment has virtually made them penny-to-the-dollar merchandises; they sell cheap and you can purchase multiple units enough to protect your home and still have enough money to buy one for every house in your neighborhood.

The adage “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” is the smoke detector industry’s best friend, tag line, and paramount Golden Rule. This tenet is central to the marketing strategy for smoke detectors, and at face value it is very hard to argue against the facts. If you and your family aren’t protected from fire, or at least alerted once smoke starts to come out, you are putting yourself in unnecessary danger when smoke detectors can provide you the peace-of-mind you need to sleep at night knowing you’re going to get woken up if something bad happens.
Unpopular Position This author, however, thinks differently, and this is not without basis. For the last 25 years, since the early days of the smoke detector, I have maintained the same message: your detech fire alarms or smoke detectors probably won’t work, in time!
Of course, no one wants to gain the spite of the fire department, city officials, the mayor, and everyone else who has paid a significant amount to put one smoke detector for every room in their house. This is not written to prevent people from buying smoke detectors and installing it in their homes; on the contrary, this is written so that people may become aware of the potentially unsafe conditions that exists within their homes, despite of the installation of a detector, and to make everyone realize that it is not enough to put your trust in smoke detectors especially if you do not know the quality of the make or the reason behind how and why it works.
That is why I am compelled to state my case. The current smoke detectors, especially the cheap ones, are inadequately designed so they will not go off until it is too late. In the same way, their design is based on the wrong principle and as a consequence, has failed to take account exactly what happens inside a house when it starts to smolder or burn. I will be more than happy to provide proof to support this argument.
