When deciding what type of telephone to choose for the home it can be quite a confusing thing. I'm not saying this because the technology is so complicated it is hard to understand what to buy. Mainly it is so complicated because there are so many phones to choose from. There are hundreds if not thousands of brands and models to choose from, so how do I know which home phones right for me?

When deciding what type of telephone to choose for the home it can be quite a confusing thing. I'm not saying this because the technology is so complicated it is hard to understand what to buy. Mainly it is so complicated because there are so many phones to choose from. There are hundreds if not thousands of brands and models to choose from, so how do I know which home phones right for me?
One of the first things to do when choosing your home phone is to find out whether you want a corded or cordless model. If you do go with a cordless phone don't forget it does need to be connected to a power supply to work. Unfortunately I made the mistake of buying a cordless without checking I had power socket next to the phone line. This does also means that if you have a cordless phone it is best to have a cheap corded phone as a back up. If you didn't you wouldn't be able to make emergency calls on your home phones landline if the power failed.
The good thing about cordless phones is that you can purchase extra handsets and put them in different rooms. That means if you had a cordless phone with two handsets you could put one in the living room, and the other one upstairs in your bedroom. As the phones work wirelessly it also means you don't have to route telephone cable around the home either. In more recent years cordless phone technology has improved and phones have better clarity and reliability. However the biggest reason cordless phones use in the home has increased is that the cost has come down dramatically.
Whether it is corded or cordless there will be plenty of models that have different facilities and features on them. What your best of doing before you look for your home phone is have a think of what features you really need. For example do you want a handsfree speaker, LCD screen, speed dial buttons, phone book, mute facility, or headset compatibility? Doing this will stop you purchasing a home phone with too many complicated features, or even worse one that doesn't do what you need it too.
Even though this phone is going to be used in the home a lot of people now work from there as well. This has led to a large increase in IP or VOIP phones being purchased, so calls can be made over the internet. It is even possible to get telephones now that can handle both internet IP calls, and your normal land line calls too.
Finally if you are buying home phones you're going to want them to look good and suit your style. Even if you are looking for something retro and old fashioned there are modern phones shaped to look just like that. Whole arrays of colours are available and even novelty phones shaped as a Stiletto is available. There are even brands such as Jacob Jensen which are dedicated to producing stylish models that look good, as long as that's your taste of course!!
