So you have finally decided to replace your missing teeth with dental implants and wondering what comes next. Relax! The dental implant procedure is easier than you think. People who have had their implants reported that they have felt comfortable during the procedure than they have imagined. The dental implant is not a simple procedure, but it is not going to hurt you anyway as the procedure itself is carried out by administering anaesthesia. What happens during the surgery?

Dental implant surgery is done in several stages as it requires the jawbone to heal completely around the implant before the replacement teeth are placed.

Tooth extraction

The damaged tooth will be removed if you have any. However, it doesn’t take a long time to pull out a tooth, but, if it is fractured, the dentist will be more cautious and take some more time to extract it to avoid fragmentation. The price of extracting a tooth will be added to the overall dental implants cost. You may feel a little pressure as the dentist wiggles the tooth out.

Placement of implant

Once the tooth is extracted, the dentist will drill a hole in your jawbone and insert the implant deep into the bones. This serves as the root of an artificial tooth.

Once the jawbone heals, it will naturally fuse with the dental implants through a process called osseointegration. This process may take several weeks or even months, depending on oral and overall health.

Placement of abutment

Once the implant is stable enough to hold the new tooth, an abutment will be placed on top of it that serves as a connector to the crown. The abutment will be tightened so that the implant remains in place during chewing. You’ll be given anaesthesia so you will feel a little bit of pressure.

Permanent crown

Finally, the new crown will be placed on the top of implants. The crown will be matched with other surrounding teeth so you’ll not find any difference between the artificial and your natural teeth.

The fact is that most of the dental procedures are not painful. It is the anticipation and the fear of the unknown facts makes people worried about the dental treatments. When you are properly informed, dental procedures like cheap dental implants can be a pleasant experience.
