For first time cruisers, a week or even a few days at sea may leave you wondering what there is to do. If you are more the active type and are concerned about getting bored, rest assured that cruise ships have a diverse selection of activities to keep you busy.
Themed Cruises
If you have elected to try a themed cruise, you will no doubt be surrounded by some of your favourite activities and interests. Taking part in your ship’s scheduled events should be a highlight of your cruise. There are many themed cruises to choose from, so if you have an interest in gourmet cuisine, Elvis, sports, science fiction, whale watching, and even opera, there is sure to be a cruise you will find interesting.
Meeting People
Being on a ship for days at a time is a great opportunity to meet new people. It is also an ideal time to exchange travel stories, get personal reviews on events, and discover new things to do. You may even meet some new people to indulge in shared activities with. Cruise ships cater for individuals from all over the world so expect to meet some interesting folks.
Most cruise ships have prearranged dinner seating, which means you are at the same table each night with new friends. There is always a chance to be moved if you are not comfortable with your tablemates, however ships also offer an opportunity to dine with the captain. Each night, the captain invites new people to join him for dinner. This too makes for an interesting and fun way to meet new people.

Each ship and company will vary in what it offers, however passengers will still be dazzled by great musicals, dance productions and cabaret shows filled with colourful scenery and glittering costumes. Families can also expect to be entertained by professional magicians, musicians, and jugglers.
More expensive cruise companies have been known to provide larger and more elaborate shows, some offering major dance productions and big name performers. Often these shows are typically saved for inaugural cruises or for holiday seasons. There are even a few luxury ships that are offering classical music acts.
