What is PBX?
PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, which is a system that allows a company to manage its incoming and outgoing phone calls. The users can also communicate within their company, without any additional costs. The internal communication is basically free. A PBX allows an organization to have more phones then phone lines. This solution saves the company from paying for several lines. The system can provide with huge veriety of features, such as voice menus, voicemail, customer waiting queues, call recording, music on hold, and more. The system operates using various hardware and software solutions that are connected to existing communication devices. There are a few types of PBX systems: Standard PBX, Hosted PBX and Virtual PBX.
Traditional PBX System
The traditional system is also known as an analog PBX phone system. Traditional system is physically connected to the communication devices. The hardware and software are installed inside the office. The service is not directly connected to the internet, and therefore can operate without it. Traditional PBX is not a bad solution, but it's not necessery right for modern and updated businesses, since it is not capable of delivering many of modern phone related features. It also has a limited maximum number of outside lines and internal telephone devices.
Hosted PBX System
Hosted PBX services transfer your phone system into the cloud (VoIp). What does it mean? First of all, it means that you don't need to install any hardware or software on your property. Secondly, all the maintenance is handled by the provider. All a company really needs to use this system, is an Internet connection. The service is available on a monthly subscription basis, for a much cheaper cost than traditional system. Hosted PBX eliminates the need to install, upgrade and maintain the system. There is also an abundance of available features, that can help a small company with a tiny budget, appear as a big and established organization.
Virtual PBX System
Virtual PBX is very similar to Hosted PBX, but it has a few differences. Virtual PBX is hosted off site same as the hosted version, but it offers less flexability and generally only handles incoming calls. Virtual PBX is the cheapest version of them all, and can be a great solution for a company that operates on a very tight budget.
