Variable Air Valve is generally a type of heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. Unlike the other system which provide a constant airflow at a variable temperature, VAV systems fluctuate the airflow at a constant temperature. It is designed to control the air flow to a specific area, called a zone.

What this VAV does is, it regulates the volume of the air to the zone by opening or closing the obstacle, thus controlling the amount of conditioned air directed to the zone. However, in each zone has a regulator which controls the VAV, controlling it when to open or shut the obstacle based upon the needs of the zone. When the space is large, such as an auditorium or open factory space, the HVAC system delivers tempered supply air based on a single set point and space temperature. However, when the system maintains the comfort level in several zones the problem becomes more complex. An office area system must maintain a comfortable temperature based on multiple set points in individual rooms. This is when a VAV comes into the role. When you install a system of variable air volume your problem is solved.
Advantages of VAV
Each and everything has two sides, one is positive and other is negative. There is no such thing which has only positive side or just advantages. Likewise, let’s have a look at the advantages of a Variable Air Valve.
1. Energy efficient
A properly designed system has a good quality of the operating system. By providing comfortable space it actually saves energy. The flexibility and adaptability of the system change accordingly to the load conditions. Because of which the systems are getting the capability of moving large volumes of air. This also solves many problems such as interior painting, smoke, and other sources of air contamination are removed more effectively than with any other system.
2. Reduction in noise pollution
VAV technology allows a single system to provide simultaneous heating and cooling without a seasonal changeover. Noise produced by the VAV system is reduced at off-peak load periods, and drafts are also less of a problem at off-peak airflows. Thus, it controls noise pollution.
3. Controls temperature
Dehumidification is greater with VAV systems than it is with the constant - volume system, which modulates the discharge air temperature to attain part load cooling capacity. A VAV system also it monitors and control pressurization in laboratories for increased safety, and really adapts to moving smoke around during remodeling, and it improves smoke cover safety monitoring.
However, suppressed heat may cause a problem in applications such as conference rooms and auditoriums. So it the minimum outside air requirements must be seen regardless of the demand. Hence there must a proper use of Variable Air Valve.
