It is marked as three years since Google and a slew of hardware and carrier partners officially announced the Android mobile operating system in 2007 and within this period, Android has become a complete and catapulted platform into the mainstream consciousness.
An awesome tweet recently came from the Open Handset Alliance’s Alvaro Fuentes Vasquez regarding the update of Nexus One. The Android users with the Nexus One in their possession should be getting Android 2.3, codenamed Gingerbread, immediately. This assertion makes sense that Gingerbread may rise in the last quarter of 2010.

Right after this tweet, market analysts say, this new iteration represents a change in the Android landscape. Prior to Gingerbread, Froyo was intended for mobile devices while prospective version could be said to also include the functionality for tablet category devices.

Google has made Froyo’s release in the second quarter of 2010 with Nexus One, once highly anticipated smartphone. But Google has already announced the closure of the device following the disappointing sales. The final nail in the coffin of Nexus One was well overdue in the third quarter of the contemporary year. But Droid phones and other third-party devices would carry the mantle for Google’s Android mobile operating system in the United States.

At the same time, it is true that there was so little fanfare or interest in the story in their official blog that the story slipped through the crack, although the Nexus One was popular with geeks. It was the story of July, 2010 when Google pulled the plug on this smart Android device. But if Vasquez’s tweet is true, we can say, update with Gingerbread will roll in to other devices in relatively short order as well and we may wait for more news on the fabled Nexus Two. And the market analysts assume that Nexus Two (if exists), the possible successor of previous one that will supposedly run Gingerbread as well.

As with variants of the Android operating system now being extended to other platforms like tablets, Internet-connected televisions and even automobiles, we can only see it getting more pervasive in the years ahead. Maybe Android Gingerbread is the result of this trend.

The Android platform is as usual developing at a breakneck speed. In fact, it’s developing so quickly that there are phones coming to market still running older versions of the software in large part, because that was the version available when the devices went into deep testing.

But Android users are rejoicing with Android Applications. With time Google Mobile OS with a wide array of mobile carriers, and more free apps has shaped up to be quite the versatile contender. With an ever-growing number of Android powered devices, Android became a one-stop shop for different kind of apps and features where users may find the perfect things for kicking back on a nice long weekend with a data card’s worth of new mobile goodies.
