However, window coverings have changed and transformed as civilization traveled through the roads of history. Timber and glass has been the most preferable choice for windows. However, in the present times people all over his world have shown growing interest in different kinds of glass windows. Glass windows while serving the basic function of blocking excessive heat, cold or other excesses of weather, performs many advanced functions as well. For example, the double and triple glazed windows do much more than the mentioned basic functions, which can be named as energy saving and soundproofing the rooms where they are installed.
When talking about energy saving and minimizing heat loss one can mention the name of the A rated windows. These windows are very different from the usual timber or glass windows as they are more proficient in preventing heat loss and keeping the rooms warmer. Window rating per se, tells about how energy efficient the windows are. thus, When a window is rated as A, this means that it is perhaps the best in saving energy within the boundaries of the house. While A is undoubtedly the best in energy saving, windows can be rated straight down to G, in descending order of performance. For calculating window ratings three main factors are considered. One is the total solar transmittance, air infiltration through the window seals and the very importantly the U value of the window.
To understand how effective a window will turn out to be, it is wise to take into account the glazing replacement. U value generally indicates the heat that is lost through any element of construction. Technically, one can say that higher the U value greater will be the heat loss and lower the U value, lower will be the heat loss. Thus while choosing a window for any house, owners should ensure installation of a rated window that too with very low U value. In the present times all architects and builders prefer to install these windows in place of the ordinary ones especially in cold countries where people may be falling back on electronic room heaters almost all the time.
