A swimming pool cannot be used properly if there are no swimming pool supplies that are present to maintain the good condition of the pool. Without the necessary equipments, it is most likely that the pool will soon be a pond for ducks rather than a swimming area. One of the most basic swimming pool supplies that are needed to maintain the cleanliness and sanitation of the swimming pool are pool filters.
Pool filters are the supplies that are needed in clearing away debris that are brought by the wind, rain, cleaning supplies, toys and swimmers. It is one of the basic tools that every swimming pool must have for a safe and healthy swimming. There are basically three components a swimming pool filter that allows it to do the job of clearing the water. The first one is the motor, and the pool pumps which are tools that are responsible in pulling the water to the filter of the pool. The third one is the filter itself which can either be a DE or a diatomaceous earth filter, a cartridge or a sand filter.
The diatomaceous earth or the DE filters are considered as the best filtering since it can filter even the tiniest particles that are in the water. It can filter as small as 5 microns or 5/1000 millimeter of impurities. The diatomaceous earth is natural substances that are found in the soil. It is the exoskeleton of the diatoms that has turned to fossils. This type of filter is cleaned using the backwashing process wherein the water is allowed to enter the filter at the bottom and exit at the top.
The sand filter is the most common and the easiest to understand type of filter. It makes use of layers of sand as the filtering material. Water is pulled by the pool pumps to the filter and is allowed to pass the layers of sand, trapping the impurities and allowing only cleaned water to pass. Although it is not as efficient as the DE filters when it comes to filtering, it is very popular because it is the most affordable type of filter.
Another type of pool filter is called the cartridge pool filters. This type of pool filter is used by many home swimming pool owners since it requires very low maintenance. It is also very effective in cleaning the impurities in the pool since it can clean really small particles. Cartridge filter do not clog up easily like the other filters and it can be cleaned simply by soaking it in a detergent solution for some time and putting it back to the pool.
