The article offers a brief presentation of a few important events that were organized in Rio de Janeiro in October 2010.

In the last few decades, Rio de Janeiro grew out to be one of the most exciting places to visit in the world. The community there is wonderful and they organize various events each and every month of the year, something for all types of tourists. 2010 is no exception to this rule and as we reviewed the most important events until September, this two part article will continue on that note and will present what we think were the most interesting activities occurred in October 2010.
We will start with an event that opened its doors this month in September, on the 23th to be more exact. We are talking about the Festival do Rio – Rio de Janeiro Film Festival, which lasted until October 7th. In 2010, it was the 12th edition of the festival and it was considered by many to be the most important event in the movie industry in all Latin America. It included presentations of short and regular Brazilian movies, documentary films and foreign movies, just to name a few. The winners of this exciting competition were awarded the Trofeu Redentor trophy. The fixed foreign exhibitions in the festival were: Panorama Mundial (world panorama); Expectativa (expectation); Limites e Fronteiras (limits and borders); Mostra Geração (generation exhibition) ; Tesouros da Cinemateca (movie hall treasures); Dox; Doc Latino; Midnight Movies; Mundo Gay (gay world) and Pocket Films. Première Brasil is the competitive part of the Festival do Rio and the best annual showcase for contemporary Brazilian movie productions. The venues for this major event were at Cine Odeon BR – Praça Floriano, 7 – Cinelândia; Oi Futuro – Rua Dois de Dezembro, 63 – Catete.
On the 4th of October, Rio de Janeiro was the home of the IFA – Production and International Trade Conference – International Fertilizer Association. This special event offered a unique opportunity to interact with senior executive from most of the major international fertilizer producers as well as some of the most important trading companies. For the 2010 edition, a special attention was given to the subject of fertilizer industry in Latin America. The venue for this event was at Sheraton Barra Hotel - Av. Lúcio Costa, 3.150 - Barra da Tijuca. The event closed its doors on October 6th.
On October 10th, the city was the host the 65th edition of the Naval Academy Regatta which is a competition of international scope and is considered by many specialists in the domain as the most important in South America. All categories of vessels as well as yachtsmen from all over Brazil took part at this interesting event. The regatta has been taking place since 1946, amidst the same enthusiasm, strengthening the ties between cadets and yachtsmen. The venue for this edition of the Naval Academy Regatta was at Baía de Guanabara.
As you can see, Rio de Janeiro has more to offer than exciting nightlife, perfect beaches and atmosphere; it is also the place that organizes month by month new as well as traditional events for its inhabitants and tourists from all over the world.
