Did you know that Type 2 diabetes is also known as a silent killer? How many people are aware that this type of diabetes poses a risk of blood pressure, heart attack, loss of vision, and kidney failure? However, the biggest problem is that a lot of people are not even aware that they have it. It is as surprising as it is true. If every adult is aware of its meaning and symptoms, people will detect it sooner. They can receive timely treatment and lower the threat of the allied life-threatening diseases too. So, let’s explore this disease and its symptoms.
What is type 2 diabetes?
There are three common types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is very common among children while type 2 is common among adults above 30 years of age. Gestational diabetes is a temporary condition, which occurs in pregnant women.
Type 2 diabetes, is the most prevalent one and is caused due to poor diet, bad lifestyle habits, and stress.
What are its symptoms?
This type of diabetes has several symptoms, but, some diabetics can say that the symptoms are so mild that they were entirely oblivious to it. However, if anyone in your vicinity shows following symptoms, recommend blood sugar test immediately. Longer it goes untreated, higher is the risk of heart and other diabetes-related problems. In fact, some studies have shown that prediabetes can also increase the risk of heart problems. So, here are the symptoms.
• Frequent urination
• Excessive thirst
• Excessive hunger
• Unexplained weight loss
• Tiredness
• Slow healing wounds
• Blurred vision
• Vomiting and stomach pain
Some people find it easy to understand and look out for these symptoms; but, others cannot interpret it well enough. Therefore, here are some easy-to-read warning signals that everyone can identify.
• Frequent trips to a bathroom: Have the number of trips to a bathroom increased lately? The excessive blood glucose gets filtered via kidneys. Therefore, people feel a constant need to visit a bathroom.
• Unexplained weight loss: This is the toughest to diagnose in type 2 diabetes. It is rather easier to notice in type 1 diabetes because the weight loss is rather sharp. However, the insulin resistance in type 2 diabetics is gradual; therefore, the weight loss is also gradual and much harder to pinpoint. But, if your clothes size has lowered suddenly or without any diet plans, you need to seriously consider a diabetes health check-up.
• Too tired and weak: Since most of the glucose from your food is part of your blood and urine, the actual supply of glucose to your body is very low. Therefore, most diabetic patients experience unexplained lower energy levels.
Keep an eye out for these warning signs.
