Turbidity is the amount of suspended particles in a water source, and high turbidity can cause a variety of serious health risks for people and animals. Therefore, it is important to monitor and reduce turbidity levels in order to ensure that water is safe and healthy to drink. Turbidity sensors are proven to be the most-effective way to determine the quality of the water, making it useful for measuring the cloudiness and concentration of total dissolved solids in a liquid.

What Is Turbidity?

Turbidity is the measurement of the number of suspended solids and particles in a water source, usually measured in nephelometric turbidity units (NTU). Turbidity itself is a naturally occurring phenomenon, but when it is high in a water source, it can indicate pollution and contamination. High turbidity can interfere with the natural processes of aquatic life, impact drinking water quality and alter the chemical balance of aquatic systems.

The presence of suspended matter like sediment, algae, plankton, organic material and chemicals can cause turbidity. When these suspended particles increase, the water becomes less clear and more opaque. This makes it difficult for sunlight to penetrate, affecting aquatic plants and animals. Turbidity also affects the water's taste, odour, and colour, making it hard to drink. The Environmental Protection Agency sets guidelines for acceptable turbidity levels for drinking water and recreational use.

How to Measure Turbidity:

One of the most effective methods for turbidity measurement is the use of turbidity monitors. A turbidity monitor will help keep the turbidity levels at par. They measure the turbidity in water by sending a light beam into the water, and any suspended particles in the water scatter the light. A light detector is placed at a 90-degree angle to the light source and detects the light reflected back at it. The amount of light reflected helps to determine the particle density in the water. When the concentration of total suspended solids and total dissolved solids in the water increases, the turbidity also increases. This is how the quality of the water is determined.

Benefits of Turbidity Analysers

Turbidity analysers offer a range of benefits, including:

-High efficiency

-Easy to use and maintain

-Provide accurate readings

-They can be used in a wide range of environments

-Turbidity measurement can be obtained in different metrics, including NTU, FTU, etc.

Turbidity Monitor Applications

Turbidity monitors can be used in different applications, including:

-Groundwater testing

-Water plants

-Water and wastewater measurements

-Leak detection of filters

-Food and beverage industry

-Industrial control systems

-Water quality testing
