A light detector is placed at a 90-degree angle to the light source and detects the light reflected back at it. The amount of light reflected helps to determine the particle density in the water. When the concentration of total suspended solids and total dissolved solids in the water increases, the turbidity also increases. This is how the quality of the water is determined.
