A Career in Public Service
The first career path most people looking into this field pursue is police work. Police departments are usually operated by cities, but most counties and states also have their own police institutions which cover the areas which are not covered by city police departments. Within each of these departments entry-level jobs usually involve patrol duties for several years. After that there may be opportunities for advancement either to a sergeant position, or into more specialized areas, such as investigations. Jobs in the police force are usually competitive, and attending college in Miami for a degree in criminal justice can set you apart from the other candidates and may prepare you for the entrance exams.
This degree can also begin to prepare you for careers in federal criminal justice organizations. These organizations have such a wide variety of needs and career paths, encompassing investigations, forensics, translation, intelligence work, cryptography, linguistics, and many other fields of expertise. For all of these, an associate's degree in Criminal Justice is an excellent beginning to a long and exciting career in the Miami area. Be sure to check with each organization for their qualifications since some jobs will require a bachelor's degree.

If you prefer to work in private industry rather than as a civil servant, there are many well-paying and exciting careers available with businesses of all sizes in and around Miami, Florida, after college.
