Although it can be easy to overlook depression, the condition is more common than you might think. Many people experience depression at some point in their lives, and many others suffer from the symptoms without ever being diagnosed or treated.

In fact, it’s estimated that about 121 million people around the world currently suffer from depression. The good news is that there are things you can do to help yourself through the right depression treatment and live a happier life, regardless of whether you’ve been diagnosed with the condition or not. Here are some of the most common signs and symptoms of depression to watch out for.

Sadness

How long does it last and how intense is it? The following is a list of feelings and emotions people feel when they’re feeling down: sadness, emptiness, feeling helpless or hopeless; nothing good ever happens; I’m not happy; life is dull; lack of energy.

Changes in Sleeping Habits

Changes in sleeping habits, especially sleeping less than normal, may indicate that you’re depressed. Not only can you feel tired and fatigued as a result of getting fewer hours of sleep, but decreased sleep leads to changes in mood as well. Changes in appetite: If your food intake changes because you don’t have an appetite or simply avoid eating due to depression, then it could be a sign that you’re depressed.

Feeling Guilty About Nothing

Everyone gets that feeling of guilt sometimes. But if you’re always feeling guilty about nothing, it could be a sign that you’re depressed. In fact, sadness is one of depression’s most common symptoms and causes people to feel less self-confident and perform poorly at work or school. If you suspect you might be depressed, see your doctor right away to get a formal diagnosis and start depression therapy as soon as possible!

Difficulty Making Decisions

If you can’t seem to make even simple decisions, it may be a sign that your depression is worsening. When you’re depressed, it can be hard to put one foot in front of another or get out of bed. But when everything feels overwhelming and hopeless, one small decision can feel like way too much.

Suicidal Thoughts

While there’s a chance that someone with depression will commit suicide, it’s not likely. Most people who consider suicide don’t want to die; they just want their pain to end. That said, if you or a loved one is experiencing suicidal thoughts, you’re your therapist immediately or visit the depression clinic. It doesn’t matter what time of day it is: If you feel like your life is at risk, you need help right away.

Everyone is will experience something bad and go through a hard phase at some point o their lives and you’re not alone. All you need is help and support at times of such hard times. If you experience these symptoms, please seek help from your therapist.
