There was a time, not long ago, when you had to be sitting in front of your TV at a specific time to watch your favorite shows. Then came the VCR, which gave you the option (though a bit cumbersome) to record those same shows onto a VHS tape to watch at your convenience. And of course, the DVR received a warm embrace when it was introduced in 1999, and the ability to pause, rewind and record TV shows quickly made the VCR obsolete.

Though the DVR Receiver is still something that most TV lovers can’t bear the thought of living without and having the ability to watch those recorded shows while “on the go” is now where all the attention is being directed.

The most recent advancement in this “mobile TV craze” is the release of the Sling Adapter. This device allows you to add Slingbox capabilities to certain satellite DVR receivers. It allows users to easily stream movies and TV shows to mobile phones and tablets like the iPhone and the iPad.

Engadget, a popular technology website, probably described it best when they said, “Basically adding the Sling Adapter to your DVR simply adds a Play On Web button to the interface. This makes it simple to manage and control your DVR, as well as watch content on your mobile device…”

There are a number of obvious ways Sling technology makes the satellite TV experience better. For one, it allows you to record and/or stream TV shows to your mobile devices. So instead of having to wait until you get home to watch your favorite college football team play, you can listen to the game or watch it live on you mobile device.

But there are also a variety of ways this technology makes your “in home” TV experience more enjoyable as well. Using the Sling Adapter with your DVR Receiver allows you to access your DVR content on one TV while someone else in your home watches live TV on another.

For most people, the thought of going back to a time where shows had to be watched in real time sounds like a world not worth living in. That may be a stretch, but there’s no denying the ability to pause and record shows is a convenience no one wants to give up. But Sling Technology gives satellite TV customers a level of convenience that DVR cannot. It allows them to carry the TV with them where ever they go. Soon, we’ll all be saying, “remember when you had to be sitting in front of a TV to watch TV.”
