When planning to move into Australia, working visa holders would often want to determine the best place for them to move into. And since Australia is a big country, there are actually of options available for you here. However, there are actually some places that you might want to get into more because of the multitude of job openings available there.
One of these places is Western Australia, which is now currently on a huge demand for more workers. In fact, according to recent statistics, the state is going to need at least 500,000 new workers for the next decade in order to meet its needs. And since the state has a population of only around two million people people, despite its large size, this means that much of this labor demand would actually come from overseas. Thus, there would be a lot of openings available for foreigners.
Of all the industries here, the biggest one in need of more workers is the mining industry. This one is actually not that surprising, since mining is one of the major sources of income for the state. To give you a picture of how large the industry is, about twenty percent of all the world's total demand for aluminum ore is sustained by Western Australia along. Also, it is the world third largest producer of iron ore for industrial needs.
Much of the state's worker needs are skilled laborers for the field. These include highly skilled professionals, such as engineers and managers, as well as those laborers that would actually man the mines. Furthermore, additional personnel are being sought to work in the many support industries that surround the mines, such as the processing plants. And there are also tons of openings available in positions that are not too related to the mining industry.
Because of the large worker demand that it currently is experiencing, Western Australia's government is now pursuing to have increased migration to the state. According to Western Australia Chamber of Commerce and Industry chief executive James Pearson, if the current migration trend continues, it is likely that they will be short by as much as 200,000 workers by 2020. This, he noted, is entirely different from the situation of the eastern states, which are no suffering from overcrowding. Thus, he called on new Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard to address the situation.
On the other hand, Gillard herself is very positive of the situation. She said that the worker demand in Western Australia is a special situation that needs to be addressed. She further added that the government is now looking for ways to redistribute immigrants to the country to meet the specific demands of each state.
And now, with the new regulations set by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC), those interested in moving to Western Australia will find it much easier. It can be recalled that the DIAC revised the skilled migration program since last year. With the new program, workers who fit the needs of the state can expect to have a much quicker application.
