One of the biggest news this week is that the previously Xbox 360-exclusive Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light has appeared on the PS3 and PC. But it is far from the only interesting game in today's article.
|
Xbox 360
360 owners can take a look at Hydrophobia, an action game that takes place aboard a giant ship. This is home to the richest of the rich, but now it is under attack by a mysterious group of terrorists. You play mechanic Kate Wilson, who quickly becomes an important piece in the game of the ship. Hydrophobia means as you know, fear of water, and the developers have done what they can to ensure that the water in Hydrophobia behaves exactly like real water. It will move dynamically, making things wet and react with the game's setting on an authentic manner.
It's also got some games to Microsoft's virtual arcade (also on PC), Game Room. These arcade game Hyper Crash, Atari 2600 games Missile Command and Pressure Cooker and Deep Pocket Billiards for Intelllivision.
PS3 and PSP
As mentioned in the introduction, it is Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light as the lead on this platform (and PC). This is an action game where the action is seen obliquely from above. Lara must fight their way through the maze-like environments and manipulate the ancient machine factories, and fight against the dangerous locals. The barmfagre archaeologist is not the only hero in this game. She has in fact been joined by an Indian named Totec. The two game characters have different properties, and must cooperate.
TerRover is a physics-based platform / puzzle game for the PlayStation 3, where you get the role of a terrain vehicles that need to explore the cave systems on alien planets. The action is seen from the side, and the game boasts colorful 2D graphics. The levels are obviously full of challenges, and a key element of the game is to keep your balance. Your vehicle has a moving "head", which can be moved from one side to the other. This affects the weight distribution, and is an important means go.
So we have a couple of "mini" games for PS3 and PSP. Overkill Apache is a side-scrolling shooter game where you control an Apache helicopter through 99 levels full of enemies. Future Fight is a tactical action game that is also available on the iPhone. Here you take part in major battles with your own forces trained soldiers.
Sony-Check the blog for more info about the week's PSN update.
Wii and DSi
Wii has won two games this week, and number one is Gods vs. Humans. Here you get the role as one of the 16 gods from Nordic, Egyptian, Roman and Japanese mythology, each with unique characteristics. People have audacity to build a giant tower to confront you, and you must use your god powers to show them what you think about that kind of thing. But you can not kill them, then you have no one to believe in you in the future. The game supports multiplayer via split screen.
WiiWare release number two is learning with the PooYoos Episode 3 This is a game-and-learn game for children ages 3 to 6 shoulder, and follows a group of cute babydyr who likes to play with numbers, letters, shapes, colors and more. Children can also have fun with music, and the game's unique fauna.
We've also got three DSiWare games. First up is Aura Aura Climber, a critically acclaimed arcade game where you must use Aura Aura slengtau-arm to climb to the sky and collecting bonus items along the way. You can also download Petz Superstar Dog and Cat Petz Superstar, and having "fun" with virtual pets.
PC and Mac
First out on the PC is of course Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light, which you can purchase on Steam. See the PS3 section for more information about the game.
Another console game that has jumped to computers NyxQuest, which is available on both PC and Mac. The game was originally for the Wii. This is an attractive platform / puzzle game that takes place in myth fairytale version of ancient Greece. Here you play Nyx, who must look for her good friend, Icarus. Thanks to Zeus and other Greek gods can control the wind, throwing beams and affect your community.
PC owners can also take a look at the Haunted House (also on sale on Steam, Impulse and gamer street, Atari's remastered version of a 30 year old games. Here, you must explore a haunted house packed full of dark secrets, and you can play alone or with a friend. You have to fight everything from rats to live stone statues, and use light both as weapons and as a tool to discover hidden things.
So we have some strategy / tactics. Star Sentinel Tactics have in fact, after a long wait, appeared on Impulse. This turn-based game inspired by classics like Laser Squad and UFO: Enemy Unknown, and gives you control over a group romsoldater who must fight the horrible monsters throughout the galaxy. The game promises plenty of tactical options, colorful 3D graphics and an involving story.
Next Games on our long list is Knights in Shining Armor: Our King's Tale Episode 1, the first in a series of episodic point-and-click adventure set to a dark fantasy world. Here we follow a young prince, who is looking for a princess. He chooses as well to go for the daughter of his most bitter enemy, which probably is not very easy.
Then we have the Monster Truck Hero, which can be bought from street gamer (PC and Mac). Here you can drive a monster truck through 25 side-scrolling environments. The game seems to be inspired by titles such as Trials Series (with realistic physics, and so on), but may include offers destructible environments and the ability to tailor the monster vehicle.
I also take a couple of games that have been out for a little while, but I have not gotten to me earlier. First is Be a King II (in gamer street and 300 AD, in both places for PC and Mac). This is a turn-based strategy game set in a medieval world. Then we have The Hockey Experiment (with PC Game Store and Impulse, an arcade hockey game that was originally released on the iPhone. PC version is extended and improved.
Like to solve the nuts and find hidden objects, you can take a look at the latest game in the trilogy The Fall, from Return to Mysterious Island-makers Kheops Studio. After exploring an ancient temple in the ace, you are now back in civilization, where new tasks are waiting. You can also check The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which is based on the familiar story of the same name (since it is old enough that it is not protected by copyright law anymore, is it fair game for game developers, filmmakers and much more).
More fun can be found easily in the game restaurant owner Cooking Dash 3, strategy Aerie: Spirit of the Forest game and fish farms Farm Frenzy: Gone Fishing. Or what about the RPG Arevan: The Bitter Truth, made by two sisters.
On the nostalgia front is undoubtedly Good Old Games' relaunch of role-playing classic Plan Escape: Torment is the pinnacle, but few also with you the brilliant turn-based strategy games Age of Wonders 2, Age of Wonders 2: Shadow Magic with Impulse (which also sells the entire Age of Wonders series, including audio tracks, in a trilogy pack).
Free Publications
The next game in The Silver Lining series (adventure game set for King's Quest universe) is out. Episode two is called Two Households, and will offer more content and more nuts than the original, which was a little lightweight, even a free game to be. The episode starts with King Graham of Daventry will be caught off guard by a crazy storm while sailing around looking for the ingredients he needs to save their children, and washed ashore on a strange Island of Wonders.
Also take a look at the 2010 version of Renault Truck Racing, where you can get behind the wheel of trucks with around 1100 horsepower, and run races on a series of courts. You can either play alone or online, and between the races, you can decorate your truck as you want it.
For some smaller projects, you can test Vibrant, a vector-based arena shooter. Or what about the Mega Man Zero-like platform / action game Giga Deep? And finally: We understand that not everyone likes Gamer.no. If you really hate us, you can test this little toy browser and launch our website in flames. Or just commercials, whether they are bothering you (prepare to die, Scott Pilgrim).
That's it for today, but as usual you can click back to last week's recap to find more downloadable games. It works almost like a sort of time machine - try it!
