Having your wedding abroad is a trend that is becoming more popular by the day, most people see this as away to fulfill their fantasy wedding, not just as a customization of what they want their wedding to be like but in complete realization of what they hold in mind as their own actual fantasy come reality. However, for some it is just more convenient than having your wedding in your home country, for instance in some countries weddings are only restricted to indoors, by law.
First thing you need to consider if you are planning to have a wedding abroad is the weather. The climate and weather of the country you want to have your wedding will matter a lot, especially when it comes to choosing a venue and attire for your wedding. Be careful not to go in the winter if you plan to have an outdoors wedding or not to go when the weather is too hot if you are not comfortable with such weather.
Another aspect you need to look into is the legal issues that may arise in having your wedding abroad. In most cases it is easiest and most common to have a civil ceremony. It becomes more complicated if one wants to have a religious ceremony. However this depends with the country you are in. proper research into the wedding laws of the country you plan to have your ceremony in are always in order. You also need to consider your home country wedding laws, and whether they will legally recognize your wedding back home, so you need to make proper arrangements for this.
Most people, to evade any legal tussles, carry out a civil ceremony at home before heading abroad to have a ceremony to renew their vows. If you want to have the entire ceremony broad, and then consider that timing is important, some countries like France will only let you have a wedding in their soil if you have been residing there for 42 days, while others may take a shorter time. For this reason most people carry out a civil ceremony, then after some time have a ceremony to renew their vows or have a formal commitment ceremony. It is best therefore to arrive in your wedding destination a good month before you plan to have the actual ceremony.
You need to consider whether the country you plan to have your wedding in, speaks the same language as your home country, if this is not the case then you will need a translator to translate the legal documents you will need in your ceremony to your home language, this will help you to register your wedding when back home, more so if your country recognizes the wedding practices of the country you are in.
One more thing you actually have to consider is the cost of a wedding abroad. it may come as a surprise to most that a wedding abroad may be more cheaper than one at home. In terms of planning you may use local wedding planners or the resort that you are planning to have your ceremony at. The guest list is most probably going to be smaller than what you may have had back home. Also part of your guests may use this as an ideal time to go on holiday, so they may not burden you much with travel and accommodation expenses. It is advisable to have your own witnesses accompany you but if you cannot bring someone with you it is also possible to arrange for local witnesses for your wedding. If this is the case, remember to bring a camera to record the ceremony and also to get a photographer to take lots of pictures for your friends and family back home. This may also help you when registering the wedding back home.
